Overclocking - yes. I've not done it before, but the guide seems ok, and a 40% increase easy.
Mainly I'm looking for something thats quiet.

Interesting, someone mentioned that the Ninja is a little trickier to mount on a 775 motherboard. Would you disagree with that?

The Thermalright's don't come with fans so you have to pick which you want which basically means you can decide how noisy they are, as I understand it the Scythe fan on the Ninja are quite quiet as well. No idea about the Arctic cooling in terms of noise.

Re: Which MOBO should I pick?

As Webby has stated in the top post, that would be my order of preference too, Thermalrights are more exspensive. The Scythe is very good and quiet and not that far behind the best air coolers. I have a Arctic Pro on another PC, it is quiet ,cheap, and better than any standered cooler but you wont get a 40% increase on it.

Now if your planning on overclocking your CPU then it makes sense to get the best cooler you can!

A few i would suggest you look at would be,

    Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
    Thermalright Ultima 90
    Scythe Ninja Plus
    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

My personal choice would be one of the Thermalrights but thats just me
Are you seriously trying to say the AC Freezer 7 Pro is better than the Scythe Mine?
    Of course it isnt.
The AF 7 is a cheapo cooler that performs quite well but its not in the same league as the other 3 mentioned or the Mine.

Re: Which MOBO should I pick?

I was just listing possible coolers and the ACF7 seems to get banded around as reasonable most of the time. You have to remember also that he only asked for alternatives to the Mine not just better performing coolers. My final escape clause is that I posted the suggestions before the "Yes I will be overclocking" reply.

So my official stance is now to forget that the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro even exists and to buy one of the other 3 I suggested

And then it will be a case of picking performance against price which in my thinking probably favours the Ultima 90 with a decent 120mm fan (perhaps an S-flex 1600rpm), under higher loads the 120mm fan has been shown to provide better cooling than the 92mm fan even with the whole fan not being coverd by heatsink. So that would be about £30 for the cooler and fan and will keep even the toastiest of cpu's chilly (or at least as chilly as you can get on air, go phase change go! )
