SATA to IDE converter problem
My new 'board only has 1 IDE cable but I have 2 IDE hard drives and a DVD-RW.
I purchased a SATA to IDE converter from Maplin and connected the second hard drive as it is primarily used for storage.
When I connect this drive to the SATA port on the 'board however, XP doesn't boot properly and hangs half way through. I cannot get the new system to work with the second hard drive.
Do I have to set anything up in the BIOS for this converter (or the SATA ports) or should it be working straight away?
Cheers
Re: SATA to IDE converter problem
You shouldn't have to do anything, the drives should just show up in the BOIS on whatever channel you've installed them.

Need FAR more detail than that.
Can you boot in safe mode?
Re: SATA to IDE converter problem
Have you changed the jumper on the IDE hdd to master when you use the SATA adapter on it?
Re: SATA to IDE converter problem
Thanks for the replies, problem solved!
Seems the jumper has to be on Master rather than Cable Select like it says on Maplin's site.
Cheers
Re: SATA to IDE converter problem
Always set the jumper to Master when using drives with converter cards or external enclosures.
I guess some may work with other configurations, but if in doubt, master it is :)
