The Q6600 is more than worth it, it'll keep any graphics card fed with instructions as well as other threads that games work on (physics, AI, etc). As for make, BFG or eVGA both make great cards.

Massive saving over the Patriot RAM, they are slightly slower but the ballistix line OCs well

Like I said, Q6600 + 8800GT.. Motherboard is ok *if* you intend on going SLi in the future, else, get one of the Abit IP35's. As for memory, whatever is the cheapest if you're not overclocking.

I second that, would get the ABit motherboard, and would get some ballistix ram. You can get 2GB PC8500 for about £65 at the minute which is only slightly slower, and you really will not notice the difference, but will save £80.

    Stick with what you have.......
The only part i would change is the PSU...the OCZ's are a little expensive now considering what Corsair and Enermax have to offer.

(Stick with the GTX over the GT)

Why would he want to pay £150+ more for less than a 5% performance gain and ~35% more power drain?

Indeed, and the RAM he is looking at is a complete waste of money tbh.

Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions

Unless you are dead set on SLi i'd probably stick with a P35 board. The 650i isn't a bad board imo but I think the P35 will be more stable with higher clocks and most likely run a fair bit cooler.

For the same price of that dual you can get the quad.. no contest for me there.

If you want a dual go with your original one (E6750) and overclock.

The quad with a decent air cooler can hit 3.2+ Ghz , with that on 4 cores your golden for a good few years im sure

is the quad core really worth it it does seem liek a good future proof option

    so intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600
    YOYOtech

will this fit for it im not to knowledgable with amd chips if not wats the best cooling option for it
    YOYOtech

    and the p35 board

    gd?
