    Buying Advice

Got to the bit where i have to pay a Scan and thought I better ask someone before i buy.

    I've got:
    Abit IP-35E, iP35 Express, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800, SATA II, ATX
Zalman CNPS9500-AT Intel LGA775 Aero Flower Cooler
    1GB (2x512MB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-5400 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, 4-4-4-12
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, S775, 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail

    In the basket.

Attempting to moderatley overclock it to 3ghz.

Will all this work together and will i be able to overclock it?

One more question. It's an upgrade for an old machine using a P4. Will i need to think about changing the PSU with all this new stuff? Or will it suffice?

    Need an answer asap.

    Hopefully after Spooks has finished.

    Re: Buying Advice

What PSU are you currently using?

What sort of GFX card are you using in this new rig? Bear in mind you'll need a PCI-E gfx card for that motherboard (you didn't list one).

It's always worth getting a new one if you can afford it. Your PSU is one of the most important components in a PC and you should definately not skimp on it. Even for a moderate overclock, having a decent PSU can make the difference between fried RAM and a rock solid stable system with headroom to overclock even more in future.

Oh nuts. I'm using one that came with the computer originally. Not sure how to see what type it is. Can you point one out for me on scan?

    Re: Buying Advice

I would go with 2GB of RAM.

If it has to come from scan then corsair is fine but there is better elsewhere

    GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
the price will change on this tomorrow but it's rediculous at this price. I have two sets both perfect.

What psu do you have? I would doubt very much the power draw will be any more demanding than your current system tbh.

If you need a decent cheapish one then the corsair VX 450w is a great PSU.

the HSF is obviously your choice. Nothing wrong with the zalmans particualrly but something like a scythe mine will be better and still quite cheap

Everything else looks fine and will work nicely together

    Re: Buying Advice

Thats normally a pretty bad sign to be honest. If it works then it's your choice really but it is the most important part of a PC

    This isn't bad for £30

Never had a silverstone psu but i certainly trust them so this isn't a bad deal in my eyes

    Re: Buying Advice

Take the PSU out and check all the sides for stickers.

If it doesn't have any obvious makers name and model on it then I would suggest you get a new one. You don't want your shiny new components fried!

As Mike said the Corsair VX450w is good quality and well priced, oh and probably worth upping to 2GB and 800MHz RAM again the link Mike suggests points you in the right direction.
