    some cooling advice please

I have a low profile htpc and i am looking to change my passive heat sink as it will not fit on my new motherboard. Does anyone know if a Akasa AK-395-2 will cool a e6550 c2d cpu. It says its for p4's which i know ran hot but i cant see any reviews for it anywhere.

My other option is this zalman CNPS8000 but i'd rather not put a fan in the system if possible

If it's good enough for a P4, it's good enough for a C2D. Just make sure there's adequate airflow in the case.

Thats good news as the one i removed was a bit bigger. I think i'll give it a go. The max load my cpu is going to get is 1080p media so hopefully if won't heat up too much.

C2D's are pretty cold anyway, as long as you aren't overclocking it it'll probably be ok. That Zalman one looks like it might be a bit high. Definately taller than the akasa one.

    Re: some cooling advice please

i went for the zalman in the end, it is slightly lower than the one i removed so should hopefully be ok.

I couldn't find any pictures of the bottom of the akasa on, i was worried that it might be completely flat in which case it will probably foul the capacitors that are annoyingly close to the cpu socket. That the reason i can't use my current heat sink.

It says it can run in a silent mode which i'm sure wont interupt film viewing etc

Well it's only a small fan anyway. You could always move the HTPC somewhere further from the speakers? Or use some noise proofing.
