    What operating system?

Vista 64bit would love 4gb, xp 32bit is plenty good enough with 2gb.

It's good RAM but you won't find any performance benefit from PC8500, PC6400 would be fine.

Re: 2gb of ram or 4gb of ram

The speeds are 800Mhz and 1066MHz

If you want to overclock and assuming you keep the RAM and CPU FSB's 1:1 (the way it should be done really) 800Mhz (PC6400) will run a q6600 at 3.6Ghz before you're even overclocking the RAM.

Now since your q6600 isn't likely to get to 3.6GHz (or much further anyway) on air cooling there is no need for your ram to be any faster than PC6400

clunks overclocking guide in the stickies may help elaborate further.

I just noticed something. Yorkfield will be a lot more demanding RAM wise than Kentsfield if you want to run at 1:1 won't it (with the lower multiplier)?
