I recently forked out for Vista as i got a good deal and went for the x64 Premium version. What a shock; its really terrible and sluggish. I just popped another 2 gb of RAM into it to take it up to 3GB. This has helped a great deal as it no longer just completely freezes up and goes into an end page file frenzy. Turning of indexing has also really helped. But its still unacceptable.
Even just basic stuff, like using firefox and its all choppy and laggy. The thing is its not that bad a system, bit long in the tooth now, but i have seen Vista Premium (with all eye candy on) running 3 times as well on a laptop with less grunt then my PC.
Im starting to regret spending any money now, i knew i would take a bit of a performance hit, but this is terrible. CS:S used to run like a dream on my XP (with 1gb of RAM), but its unbearable on Vista with all FSAA turned off etc.
Am i missing something here? Could i have a driver issue? I have installed the latest 64 bit versions of the nForce4 driver, Creative driver, Forceware driver. Anything else i have not thought about? Anything else that could help me?
