    Re: HTPC using older parts

If it were £5-10 maybe, but looking at Scan the difference is over £20, and that pushes it too much for just a media system IMO.

I'm looking at a HD2400Pro for my HTPC as soon as I can find a passive one which includes a low-profile back plate, either in the box, ready fitted or even to buy separately. The 7100GS that I've got in at the moment can't even display 1920x1200 in MCE without stuttering, let alone giving it any decoding to do on top of that (if it could).

I know, I was comparing like-for-like from the same retailer, one which most of us use, cheapest card of each.

If you want to play that game, then PEAK 128MB RADEON HD 2400PRO PCI-E w/LP RETAIL - Cheap Computers & PC Repairs Wolverhampton

    HD2400s play Bluray fine.

All blurays are 1080p, which the 2400 can't handle, right?

Ok, let me rephrase what I said before:
its worth the extra £15 to get a 2600 pro especially if it avoids ordering from a site that no one has heard off...

    Re: HTPC using older parts

Providing you're right about the HD2400s not handling 1080p, which is far from conclusive by the looks of it, then Bluray will output at whatever the maximum is that your system will allow, even standard PAL if you use something like AnyDVD HD.

It's also not necessary to get a 2600Pro if it's not needed (IE he only needs 1080i, as he said). Why bother spending that £15 more (and if I'm being really pedantic the power it'll use thereafter ) if it's not going to be needed?

I only listed that website as an example, using the first option that came up in Google Products. I guess if you really wanted to you'd find others at a similar price.
