    SPEC me up! 360Elite/NICE tv...

Right my nice 28inch crt tv has just melted itself and as I only paid 25quid for it and want Hi Def I can't see sense in fixing it...
Im on a tight budget of £680 quid thats IT! I get paid in 2weeks but I cba to wait tbh...
I currently sit... roughly 7-8feet away from the tv so what size would you recommend? 37/40? and I'd want an LCD right?
would like the best performance I can get obviously but I'm not sure IF I'm gonna really need 1080p/i? would a nice 720p be good enough I mean this has to last because I'm not planning upgrading for a longtime once I get this setup...
If I ran 720 instead of 1080 would it look crap on my 37/40inch or is the 1080 just making sure there's enough quality to show the picture clear and vividly without making it pixelated?
    I've no idea!

So what I want to know is.... UK only sites.... Best deal for a 360 Elite+skate/bioshock pack? and what tv to get and use with this...
I'd like links please to direct places to buy both...

sorry this is so comfusing I'm just abit shocked my tv's gone and trying to think fast and cease the oppertunity...
so 37/40inch?which would be better to be using for gaming/movies 7/8feet away?
my total budget is £680 and that's everything I've got left lol!

cheers for all your suggestions guys.

what's the budget? considering you can get 1080p sets affordably these days, i'd recommend going for it

£680 as a total budget, ok so break it down.

You wanted the Xbox 360 elite, so the going price for that is £299 roughly, I'm sure you can get a few quid off, but roughly around that.

Your left with £380 for the TV.

I'm not going to look for makes and models for you as on that budget you've got 2 options.

Change your size to a much smaller TV and get a good quality one, or keep with the bigger sizes and get crap.

Which one you want to do will dictate your selections.

Re: SPEC me up! 360Elite/NICE tv...

erm well i figured a elite to avoiding getting screwed over with a faulty one 6months along the line like everyone seems to be experiencing. I'm a 360 novice to be honest mate... so if i can get the normal model that has been revised and works? should i or is my best bet the elite?
will i need 120gb? hear gta is going to have some kind of install isn't it hence why their holding it back and all?

I know this sounds very stupid but would you say I'm doing the right thing going for 360 not ps3? I LOVE GT/GTA/MGS for a start so I'll be missing out on that but I'm not sure the ps3 has the other games I want released on it? Assassins Creed/BioShock? I know skate's on it...?
I really want GT5 and the new metal gear so am i making a mistake do you think?
and will a new 360 be reliable? and can i get a bigger hd later along the line?
cheers for any thoughts on this mate.

    Well 40gb PS3 is cheaper than elite at amazon.co.uk (£279.99) and personally i'd rather have a PS3 than a 360.

    heres a link:
Amazon.co.uk: Sony Playstation 3 Console (40GB Version): PC & Video Games

£247 still = only leaves a few quid more and his TV options are still limited.

£500 is the minimum you should be spending on a 30+ TV for a quality one

just to give you an IDEA (before people jump on this telling you can get them cheaper else where).

    Amazon.co.uk: Televisions - Sound & Vision: Electronics & Photo

look at this amazon search you'll find 26'' Tv's are around £320 and some of them are a bot dodgy on the makes/models, which is pretty mutch your budget.

As I said either lower your size and get quality or shop around for random deals/makes for crap but with a bigger screen.

you have options like this Amazon.co.uk: Philips 26PFL5522D - 26" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview: Electronics & Photo which will pretty much eat up your budget on a 26'' screen.

Re: SPEC me up! 360Elite/NICE tv...

well getting a differnt version of the 360 or the PS3 cut down version won't make that much of a difference to your budget. The fact that you're getting a games console you don't seem to really be bothered about suggests to me you should blow your £600 on a reasonable TV and then wait / save / christmas ask for a console when you have made your mind up with a bit more conviction.

    I don't see a link to a play.com offer for a £900 TV.

Re: SPEC me up! 360Elite/NICE tv...

i see what your saying its more sorta i've been outta the scene for awhile and i see a few games and im like woah!
i mean its so complicated these days to choose. back in the day you'd have strict differences for example ps1 vs the n64... now its like some might come out and then another that'll be on the console i don't have.
to be honest i haven't played a ps3 yet... i've heard that assassins creed is crap on it though because the frame rate staggers badly or something? apparently due to it being a pain in the ass to code right?
which is a shame because i definately want that game.
i would say ps3 because i want the new metal gear and gran turismo... skates on there aswell as gta will be... so i'd be sorted if the frame rate isn't an issue but I'm not confident on that the ps3 will last if their having problems like this... seeing as i saw assassins creed advertised for ps3 way before i knew there would be a 360 version...
i hope you can see where im coming from. in a way im spoilt for choice but at the same time I'm drawing straws:S
do you think if i go for the non elite i shall have problems or have they been fixed now? what was the issue i didn't read into it more than it was overheating?
I'm possibly considering buying one second hand but I'm not too sure if its worth the risk...
what non elite model would be advised in your opinion?
has the elite definitely resolved the issues as i hear it hasn't...

Re: SPEC me up! 360Elite/NICE tv...

the xbox is still £230 for the non-elite version which still doesn't put your budget up for the TV.

    I suggest the following.

1.) forget this thread discussing PS3's and Xbox's you've already had one in the gaming forum, and you still don't know what you want. So either open another thread in the gaming section to discuss this for you a second time, or make your own mind up.

2.) in the mean time your TV has blown up - spend the £600 on a solid 26 - 30'' TV as you currently don't have one. Use whatever console/gaming system you've got with your new TV or just watch TV for a few weeks, save up while your debating what console you REALLY want as it looks like you've still not made you mind up and won't be doing so for a while.

PLEASE try to make your posts easier to read in future as your ability to communicate your current situation and your wants and needs is weak and this causes confusion

Re: SPEC me up! 360Elite/NICE tv...

I'd personally look at the Toshiba 32C3030/C3035.

I've bought one, and it looks rather impressive. Steve has just bought the European version and seems similarly impressed. Its got a decent range of inputs, and although not as good on SD picture quality as some of the more recent Sony or Panasonic offerings, its more than good enough. Its strength is HD feeds, especially from a console or PC, where it shows its true ability.
