    Had my Q-Tec 550w a good while now. Good, solid voltages for me
    In saying that, I've not got that much running off it...

    I have a couple of Q-Tec 550w PSUs here. Both seem to be working fine.. one system has a problem but I don't think it's to do with the PSU, though i'm not entirely sure yet. Had no time to check it out properly.

    But with the CWT psus being so cheap, why even consider a Q-Tec now .

    ive never owned a qtec psu, nor do i ever want to. i would trust my old 275w psu more, and thats fanless (cos i took the fan out!). note that i havent used it since.

    "The 550w is delivered from the fact that it can peak at a certain amper. However this PSU can only sustain 409w!
    O/P - peak - max
    3.3V - 30A - 20A = 3.3x20=66W
    5V - 40A - 35A = 5x35=175W
    12V - 20A - 14A = 12x14=168W
    In total this PSU can sustain a maximum of 409W.

    the +5v and +12v will be sharing the same winding on the transformer, which is the part of every psu that affects the ratings the most. those max ratings measureed above by the QTEC ppl will be with each rail measured seperatly, not all at same time. if lots of current is drawn on the 5v rail, there will be none left for the 12v rail. i think it would be about right to say the max SAFE output of both the 12v and 5v at same tiem is 75% of the max rated, this leaves the PSU at only 323.25W. this is incredicbly LOW. i also wouldnt be suprised if all q-tec psus are acctually the same wattage, 323.25, but just with a differt sticker, or it would leave there very crap 300w psus at about 100w max. i have an unbranded 350w psu here, which has better ratings than the qtec ones. it has a real max of about 300w, although currently its not giving out any mroe than 11w, due to its being used for my router only.

    for those wanting a new psu, CWT's @scan.com are very good. i only recommend the 550W model though, due to it being the A series, which has a few nice features, like seperate windings for the 5v and 12v rails and its probably a bit quieter (silent!). the 350w and 450w at scan are B series hich is why they are so much cheaper, but they are still decent psus.

    I've no idea. I was about to buy a Q-Tec 550W, but lots of people here talked me out of it.

    Which is probably a good thing. Thanks I bought an Antec 430W in the end.

    A wise choice - all the rails are separated on Antec's - so you don't have the problem of 5V/12V sharing as outlined above.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    good noise and stuff on the 400w lo noise no bad for 15's channel wells 1 for a serious blinding performance

    Are people forgetting that there are 2 different companies with very similar names? 1 is decent, 1 is poor!

    Q-Tec are crap.

    Q-Tech are good.

    This is probably why you are getting so many mixed reviews of this PSU. I bet those who said it was crap were refering to the Q-Tec, whilst those who said it was good were actually refering to the Q-Tech.

    You can get the good Q-Tech PSU's from here.

    Sorry, this is not 'my theory' as I've had no experience with either, I just go from what most reviewers say!

    My Q-Tec 550W is fine had it for over a year. It seems to tolerate P4's better than Athlon's however no problems whatsoever, pretty noisy though... for the price they are OK.

    i dont think any oen has mistaken Q-TEC psus and Q-TECH stuff. i must admit though that q-tec psus are very crap, and having bought some of there products before, i would have expected more from them - maybe they were just very cheap. they MUST have got a nice profit from them, many shops were selling at upto £75 for them!
