Dead PC?

Think my Mesh PC has died, but I'd be grateful for any views on what is wrong with it.

It has worked fine for about 4 years. Started a few weeks ago turning itself off. This happened even if I was doing nothing.

Now if I switch the PSU on, the motherboard led lights up as does the power light on the front panel. The front panel hard drive light is also on, but all the time, rather than the usual flickering when its active. All the fans work, but the DVD won't open.

That is as far as it gets - not POST, no bootup.

The on/off and reset buttons have no effect. Even if I hold the on/off one in for a minute or so, nothing happens. The only way to turn it off is by the PSU swtich. I've checked all the connections inside, but can't see anything wrong.

The hard drive is OK - when this first happened I took it out and put it in an external caddy and got data from it with no problems.

Spec is AMD 4000+, ASUS A8N, 1Gig RAM, Atix800xt.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong. As the PC is old I was thinking of upgrading cpu, m/board and RAM, but wonder if it can be fixed.

Do you have another power supply to try it with?

That would be the first think i would try as I think that is the most likly culprit.

Power supplies still often light up the LED on the motherboard even if they have died a death.

I agree, PSU sounds a likely culprit. I too have seen them with enough power to have lights and fans but go no further.
