    20 vs 22 inch screens

Just looking at what people prefer? Iv been given the option of swopping (+£60) my samsung 206BW for a samsung 22BW (the 22inch equivilent) and was wondering if it would be worth it?

I watch a lot of films(inc HD films), do a bit of gaming & a lot of general PC use. Would it be worth it the extra £60 for the bigger screen?

    cheers guys

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

Generally you get sharper text on the 20's but I honestly can't tell the difference between my 20" and my mates 22".

Text is slightly easier to read on 22" and you do gain that extra bit of size when watching movies.

£60 is steep though.. Not sure I would go for that.

I agree with both of the above - I have a LG 22" monitor. Did try out a Samsung 205BW and found text a bit on the small side.

Last time I looked on ebuyer I think the Samsung 226BW was cheaper than the 206BW.

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

it depends on whether the resolution is the same as well as quality of the picture.

the 20" is it widescreen or 1600*1200?

the 22" is widescreen for sure but 2" isnt that big a deal, maybe you can spens a little more and get a 24"? resolution is great at 1920*1200

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

Definitely not worth the 60 quid difference.

I have a preference for 20" screens, as they don't feel too big and the dot pitch is normal sized (to me - used to 17" CRTs). 22" are nice from a distance but I find the pixels are a bit too big if you can't run AA and they're just a bit huge close up

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

I like the 22", but there wasn't much difference in price when I got my 226BW over the 20" version.
The screen real estate is nice, and it's easier on the eyes as you can sit further away from the monitor.
Not sure 60 quid is a tempting upgrade though...

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

I specifically bought a 20" screen and not a 22" because all the 22"s at the time were cheap crappy 262k TN panels. This may be true even now, I haven't kept up.

Point is you might find the colour reproduction, viewing angles etc. are much better on the one you already have. I wouldn't bother with that particular 22" model anyway.

It is still true But I think that 20" is a cheap TN panel too. So it depends on whether that 22" version is better or worse in other ways. It could be either.

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

I just picked up a Samsung 2032BW and my one complaint is that occasionally text is a little imprecise, particularly certain fonts like Courier compared to the 15" Dell I came from or the 17" Dell monitor I use at work.

Other than that, more than happy with the performance, watched Babylon 5 quite happily on it so far and the difference it's made to World of Warcraft's colour depth is staggering.

Re: 20 vs 22 inch screens

Given they both run at the same resolution I'd always go for the smaller monitor as it will, IMHO, give a crisper image. However I don;t use my PC for watching movies, so that may be a factor to go for the 22", I do all that on the 40" downstairs. If you find the text a little small on the 20", and some people will, then you can always up the DPI in Windows to create larger fonts, but will leave games able to look their best. For me, the smaller the dot pitch the less the need for AA in games.
