RAID Issues
I booted my PC last week to find that the primary RAID array had degraded. I copied the files off the drive onto another computer. Some of the files would not copy for no apparent reason, and some files seemed to be duplicated.
Anyway, I deleted the RAID array and created a new one using the same two drives. I reinstaled Windows XP x64 with the same drivers as before. When Windows finally booted, I got an error message about "Generic Host Services Process has encounted an error and must close". I clicked "Don't send". A message then appeared telling me my new hardware had been successfully installed, and so I clicked "restart computer".
Windows would no longer boot, I get an error message about some missing file so windows cannot boot.
I found that by removing one drive from the RAID array, then windows would boot without any problems. Likewise if I plug that drive back in, and remove the other drive in the RAID array, windows would also boot fine.
Any ideas about the problem?
Thanks

Re: RAID Issues
Have you run a check on both drives say using the manufacturers tools which you should be able to download from their site.

Re: RAID Issues
I have run a check with the Seagate tools that I got off their website. No errors were found on either drive. I tried reinstalling windows again from scratch, however the same problem occurred. Before I restarted the computer this time I checked "My Computer", and two drives appeared where there should only be one. I know for a fact that the drivers work. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: RAID Issues
I'm new to using RAID myself so not sure if i can help, but have you checked the bios settings, the SATA controller set to RAID, when you create the array does it report any 'drive failing' messages on the summary. Have you done a low level format on each drive before trying to recreate the the array (when i last tried even deleting the array did not clear/reset the harddrives) and finally when you create the array what did you ask it to do, stripe or mirror?
Are you using the mobo onboard raid controller or do you have a seperate raid controller?
