Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
Check out the the Antec p182.
Antec P182 Black SPCR Advanced Super Mid Tower - No PSU - Ebuyer
You could get the cheaper Asus p5k-E or deluxe motherboards.
Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
Had a P180 before and didn't really like working inside it, it was a bit cramped.
Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
That's my ultimate case :( lol
Akasa Eclipse/Mirage is huge inside and has a removable tray :)
My favourite cooler is the scythe ninja rev B
but there's also the scythe infinity and mine, thermal right 120 extreme and ultima 90 which are both awesome.
PSU is a bit overkill (i know i know i have the same output but I was foolish in my youth :D)
750GB hard drive for your OS drive seems a tad overkill as well. How about getting a couple of 320gb's and using Raid 0 on them?
There's better RAM out there too.
this is a good deal
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

Check out the ABit boards (IP35 or IX38 ranges)...
After owning 4 "high end" Asus boards (P5B, P5W-DH-Dlx, P5W-64-WS and Blitz Formula) and then building a lot of IP35 based boards for friends recently, I've come to the conclusion that the ABit boards are a lot better then the Asus boards currently.

ain't that the truth. Standard IP-35 is the dogs :)
Just such a good layout.
Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
Go for a different mobo, something with SLi...

OMG :woowoo::woowoo:
This is the second time we have agreed in a month :p
The only change i would make is indeed the Epsilon. They are expensive and for a similar price you could wade in with the Enermax Infiniti.

Why....its pointless.
2x times the price for less than 1.5x performance.
Look at an 8600GT for example. Somewhere around £70 each. 2 of those will set you back £140-160. With that cash you could buy a 8800GT or wait for the next gen cards. Hence a waste of cash.
SLi has never been a good option and doubt it ever will be. (Unless you can afford 2 of the absolutely top of the range models)
The ONLY time it can help is if you plan to keep your rig for years on end without upgrading. YOu can then pick up a second equivalent card on the cheap once they are out of date and EOL.
1 card is best

And if you plan on not playing any games that need new features. Usually it's a toss up between needing more raw power and needing a new feature for the latest games. By the time a card is out of date it's quite likely that you'll be needing a new generation anyway, so SLI doesn't get you anything.
Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
I would chuck another vote in the Thermalright cooler box, if you like space then you can't beat the cooling performance/space of the Ultima 90 with a 120mm fan, it will probably out perform the ninjas for only half the space :p
As for case I guess it all depends on what you like, anything by Antec, Silverstone or Lian Li would likely be a good choice but then price becomes an issue... although SS are on offer this week at Scan TJ09 is roomy but £150 on offer... TJ-06 is also roomy and has a funky wind tunnel but you may need to mod for extra fans but it comes in at a mere £80 reviews of both on Hexus here and here.
Edit: Oh and the Abit IP35 board is on offer on Scan today only as well!
Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help so far....
HDD
--
Right - point taken about the OS HDD. I'm going to install some ICY dock removable HDD enclosures anyway as I'll need at least access to at least 5 different OSes for work.
RAM
--
Regarding the RAM, I actually want 4x2GB sticks. What is the best stuff for O/Cing?
Mobo
--
SLi is of no use to me. I had dual 7800GTX cards before my current 8800GTX, and I didn't find it particularly stable or performant.
I'm not going to bother with RAID-0 as I've also had bad experiences there.
Given all that, can someone recommend a specific model mobo?
Cheers...

Re: Yet another - check my PC spec thread
I'm using the Asus P5K-E been perfect so far.
The Abit ip35 is also a good choice.
I'll second the comment about the thermalright ultima 90, very good and nice and easy to fit.
