The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
GeForce 8 Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Judging by those figures its going to leave the GT's as well as the old GTS's well behind. Looks like even the GTX may struggle to keep up with it.
Roll on December 3rd.
Going to be around $250-300 so should drop in here now at around £200-220.
Just a thought......do you think the lack of 8800GT's is anything to do with the fact that this new GTS is on its way and the priorites for nVidia are lying with that? I dunno but its possible.

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
Is this data verified though? If it is then wow!

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
Sounds good to me. They will probably charge more like £250+ at first though.

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
Nice maybe I'll be able to play crysis at decent frame rates on 800 x 600 on ultra low setting

I think ATI are bringing a new card out in Jan as well

Hmmm. If it's in the Inquirer it must be true...

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
wtf...
Power consumption:
140W
That's just ridiculous for a single card. I'm going to wait for some kind of optimised card to come out that doesn't use the energy of several suns. (In the meantime, heating up my PC so I can use it as a cooker)

Should save on heating bills though my gts is heating my room right now :)

That's nothing, the 8800GTX uses 177W.

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
So you're saying, theres no point in buying a GT?

If the price is reasonable then yes.
-
Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
reasonable... like say... not 100% more than what the US is charged for it?
-
Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
I'm not convinced that the wikipedia is accurate, given that the rumour mill places the 8800GTS far more frequently as using the G80 core with the main difference being the extra stream processors unlocked and the memory speed boosted a little.

You didn't look hard enough. The source for the Wiki story is.... the Inquirer!

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
The way I see it, it should bring the GT to the price it should be - and probably balance the supply/demand if there are enough who will pay more for more. If the price leans toward the lower side of the £200-220, then I can actually see the bang for buck to be competitive with the GT (but I suspect staffsMike estimate is going to be closer). The only thing I find it odd is that if the story is true, then they are really releasing the entire line of the G92 mid-up, rather than top down. I find this weird for two reasons: first, it means that the new, lower priced part is going to step over into the territory of the upper end part for less money (GT did so with the GTS, and the new GTS could do so to the GTX). Demand is higher towards the mid-range than top range, so they may once again run into chip shortage. And third, in some way, releasing the flagship first makes a statement of the generation's performance (I suppose that the GT did that too in a way).

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
What does a GT use power wise?
-
Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
If all these specs are correct then i think this:
Low Range = Old GTS
Low-Mid Range = GT
Mid-High = New GTS
GTX/Ultra Phased out in favour of the new high range 9800's
Thats the way they seem to be playing it.
Clever really as they are flooding the market with the mid & mid-high range stuff effectively shutting out all ATI offerings as the 2900XT is efffectively only a mid range card aswell.
When ATI's card, which is supposed to be flagship, is being equalled or beaten by nVidias low-mid cards they havent a hope.
/keeping eyes peeled for the December 3rd

The 3870 is quite cheap and apparently runs crysis pretty well vs. the nvidia cards as ATI have released some nicer drivers (I.e. max settings). I mean, all the cards are good, it's all about price per performance since there aren't so many games that will use every last inch. The 8800gts is the last time I spend £200 on a card. It was a bit of a desperate situation which is why I did.

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
I am able to run Crysis on 1680x1050 with everything except shadows on high (DX9 only) at very acceptable frame rates on my E6550/2GB/8800GT rig. But the moment I turn on AA, the fps takes a hit, so if the 'new' GTS can up performance significantly, I may upgrade. Otherwise, the GT does everything just fine :)

I've heard 140W. Which is more than a GTS but less than an Ultra / GTX.

Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
at that specs its not gonna compare to an ultra

Nope...but not far off.
It will certainly out-pace the GTX nearly all the time though if those figures are correct and if its at the £200-220 mark (which seems like it will be) then its the card to have at price v power......well.......for about 2 weeks until the next one comes along anyway :(
-
Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
The question is will there be more than 50k available on 3rd Dec? I suspect another round of etailer price gouging :(
-
Re: The NEW 8800GTS - Its almost here...Look!
soz didnt look at the bandwith but it will give it a run for its money if you Oc the gts
