    Smile can't detect SATA drive

    Hi,
I'm trying to format a new SATA drive. I have connected it up to my vista machine and it initially detected that it was there; apparently installed the necessary software and i then restarted.

The drive doesn't come up in 'my computer' yet it is seen in 'device manager' and 'disk management' as unallocated space. It is also seen in 'Diskpart'. I have tried (within diskpart) to convert it to a dynamic drive as I can'y format or do anything to it in any of these programs....

    Any ideas?

    Cheers!

    Tom

In Disk Management you have to right click the volume reported as Unallocated space and create a partition, and then having created the partition, format it.

    Re: can't detect SATA drive

I couldn't create a simple partition (as the option was greyed out), However, I changed some settings to show the disk in list view at the top and then could 'initialise' it (which i did) I could then create my partition.

I live in a house with one woman.......and I can't remeber the last time I was right
