New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
Just bought a new Q6600 to replace my E6400.
My boards an ASUS P5N32-Sli Premium, 550w psu, 4gb corsair-xm2-pc6400,geforce fatl1ty
7600gt etc etc
Built it myself and there's never been a problem.
so... stuck in the Q6600 and attached a new Thermalright IFX-14 Fire Extinguisher
instead of the standard intel sink/fan i had for my E6400. used the thermal paste ok.
when i boot it's all ok and then my overclock utility for the board which appears when
windows boots says the cpu is running at 252 degrees. Obviously tthis aint right or it'd
fry but the needle gauge is peaked in the red, it's runs for about a minute and turns off.
seen in another forum about cpu voltage... could this be a problem?
can you guys throw me ideas or any info i can check in the bios and post for you to see.
****tin my pants case i fry the new cpu!!! :wallbash:
Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
check the temps in BIOS first.
also check if the HSF is sitting perfectly on the CPU
Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
reseat the CPU, make sure you have good contact with the cooler. See what temps you get with the stock cooler.
Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
ok... will check the bios.
as far as the heatsink, it is a flat square base the size of the bracket of the cpu and is screwed down tight with thermal paste in between.
check www . thermalright . com
go to intel heatsink - ifx-14 - installation and it shows how it clamps down.
will post more info when i get home after 3pm GMT. cheers
Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
Try using something like speedfan to check the temps from windows too - sounds like a misread from the BIOS. Also check you've got the latest bios (in case they've updated CPU support).
Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
possibly need a BIOS update?
Unfortunately Asus' site is being it's usual dog slow self but the front page for http://www.asus.com/search.aspx?sear...32-Sli+Premium doesn't mention quads.

Try checking the reading on CoreTemp as well.

You are right,
the P5N32 doesn't support C2Q

Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
hmmm.... do i feel a little silly here. it doesn't look like it does take quad core :surprised:
strange is even started up then?!

C2Q are not that much different then C2D.
So even when the Board doesn't support it, you might get it running.
But with some problems like you have know. And nobody knows if this is good for the CPU.
So better get a new MB which support a C2Q
Re: New Q6600 overheating!!! HELP!!!
when you attached the heat sink, make sure you apply pressure evenly onto all 4 points, rather than setting one side and then the other. otherwise it might lift the cpu a little.
check that there isnt any dust on the motherboard as it might be covering the sensor and playing with it. take out the cpu as well and check hw clean the contacts are. lint free cloth and a air blower.
hope it works out.

Is already solved, the MB doesn't support Quad-Core

So are you selling the Q6600? :P
