right i have 950 to spend on a new rig will overclock i want to get the best performance out of it possible running crysis what hardware you guys suggest ?
I'd be looking at
Intel Q6600 + decent HSF (scythe ninja, thermalright 120 extreme etc...) - £190
2 - 4gb of PC6400 RAM (scan today only has corsair xms2 for £37 per 2gb)
Abit IP-35 or the Pro if you require some extra little features - £80 or £120
Geforce 8800GT - £170
Antec P182 - £80
Corsair 520w HX - £65
500GB Western Digital AAKS - £60
Dvd Writer - £20
With 4GB of RAM and the IP-35pro you're looking at around £785 and a system which should overclock nicely to around 3.4GHz.
You could get an 8800GTX or Ultra with the extra money but i'm not sure it's worth it.
If the new 8800GTS (with g92 chip) isn't just a fairy story I would imagine that would be the GPU to have.
My mate's pc which is essentially the same as "my system" runs it at 1680 x 1050 with medium settings and never seems to go below 30fps. It looks pretty good anyway. I find it such a boring game though, cod4 ftw!!
yea crysis doesnt seem that intenense i completed it on my m8s pc i just see it as the highhest demanding game and using it to build my pc around coz i dont see any games gettign any betetr graphics then that for a while
As above but would change that western digital hard drive to the
500 GB Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint T166 Its about £63 and is faster.
Look at the artic cooling freezer 7 pro for the cpu cooler. Its about £17 is supposidly excellent.

I take a look at the Coolermaster RC-1000 Cosmos case and a Asus P5K Premium/WiFi-AP maybe even go for a X38.
dude get a asus P5E X38 pci 2.0 is twice as fast and in games the pci 2.0 ATI HD2400/HD2600 saw a 10% increase over old pci-e
Waiting for luck is like waiting for death
This is the spec im thinking of getting

is the graphics card a wise choice it seems really good and the price tag is nice what you guys think so far of the spec?
what you think needs changing i have a budget of 950 what could i make better ect i may get another monitor 22inch 150 quid so that leaves me pretty much done
shall i change the ram and HDD??
is 4g that worth it is it better getting a nice 2gb set which is better ?
you think this is a good system to keep me happy and my gaming life at uni good for a few years
and also ive noticed the GT is pcie2.0 is the mobo i have selected 2.0 also if not what mobo would you suggest thats 2.0
if this is true is it worth picking up 1 of these its only a few weeks and i can wait will the new GTS be a much bigger difference and with a 200 - 250 price tag .. well im game

Is that 2 sets of that OCZ ram? If not its way over priced.
The GTS would be worth waiting for if the speculations are correct.
yeah give it a month for the graphics card. There's some new ones coming out soon.
P5K deluxe is nice, and 4gb OCZ ram too. Make sure you get Vista Premium 64 so you can use all 4gb of ram, and Crysis runs better with 64bit.
The Arctic cooler 7 for about £15 is brilliant. Still one of the best around.
freezer is good but noisey in the P182 and the bigger towers (and the thermalright ultima 90) are quieter and overclock better.
Not really. I was deciding between the T166 and the AAKS a few weeks ago and ended up going for the T166. But that's only because the T166 is cheaper, quieter and fast enough for storage use.
Do you really need 500Gb of storage?
I'm looking at getting the Raptor X just for over all performance. I'm not really worried about storage. I can add more in the future and use the X as a sytem drive.
hell yea where else will i store my movies ect ect i got 750gb on this and its full
My 8800GT does crysis all guns blazing if thats any help! I figure ONLY JUST though.
right after reading your inout and taking in to considertaion this is my updated spec proposal :
