Best cheap 19" ws, anything better L194WT?

Hey, I'm look for the best, but cheap, 19" widescreen I can get. A year ago I was looking at 20"s and the LG L204WT and Samsung 205BW were top of the list (at least around the £200 mark), so I'm wondering is that a year later and at £110 the L194WT is still a decent monitor for the price? Or is there anything better around right now, even if it's not widescreen. Dont wanna vary too much from 19" though, maybe a really good 17" or decent 20" might be ok but can't vary too much higher than £120 ish.

Depends what ypou mean by "best" - generally you can have it good - or you can have it cheap, but cheap is a relative term. What is your budget? What are your target specs? You need to define one or the other, and if you can't meet the specs within that budget, either lower your specs or increase the budget.

    So - you want 19"

Resolution, technology, speed, application, graphics card you are going to be using it with? All info to get you better advice.

Re: Best cheap 19" ws, anything better L194WT?

around £120 would be best, £110 better....

problem is i need pretty much an all rounder. will be used for office work right now but also likely movie / clip watching and maybe a bit of gaming in the future.
as for graphics card, again that's gonna vary as it'll likely be used for three seperate pcs, though nothing great as far as graphics go, onboard 7150 is about as good as it'll get, but as it'll be used on old pcs dvi + vga are pretty much needed, and hdcp may be useful in the long run, no need for any tv type ports though (component/composite).

if you just take the l194wt as a good basic of what i'm looking for - decent contrast ratio (2000:1 no doubt tricked out of it), ok brightness (300cdm2) good but not great response (5ms) and decent colour reproduction (s-ips would just be a bonus).

found this thread on anandtech: AnandTech - The LCD Thread but they're all split up in to different use sections so i'll have to work out an all rounder out of those lot, then see if they've made it to the uk yet...

I got a couple of Daewoo 19" Widescreens from Scan about a month ago. They were £95 each and I was quite impressed with them. Didn't do any tests as they weren't for me.
