    New Temps

    Hi,

I posted my temps here a couple of weeks ago, see this thread --> temps

General consensus was that temps were a bit high and my heatsink was cak (gigabyte 3d rocket pro).

Since then I have got a thermalright ultra 120 Extreme and a yate loon 120mm fan and as the screen shot below shows, the temps are now a good 12 degrees lower woo!

Orthos was running for just over an hour and CPU temp seems to be approx 41 degrees, do you think this is low enough for a modest OC? I'm going to follow clunks Q6600/Asus P5K deluxe OC guide and will aim for 3Ghz

Any suggestions for further cooling would also be appreciated, I've got a couple of little alu heatsinks that could be stuck on somewhere with thermal adhesive if there's is any area or chipset not covered by the copper heatsinks/heat pipes on the P5K deluxe?

Ummm, which one of those 3 temperature readings is correct? :s

Haven't had an Intel CPU in years so forgive me if it's a stupid question...

    Re: New Temps

tbh I don't know, different people recommend different apps hence the mosiac... but everest and speed fan show the same temp for CPU so I'm guessing its correct.

Anyway, regardless of actual temp correctness, the temp in each app is about 12 degrees lower than with my prev cpu cooler so relatively speaking the temps seem much improved...

    Re: New Temps

Speed fan has temps around 10 degrees lower i believe.

Try core temp, i think it's meant to be the most accurate.

    Re: New Temps

ok, heres a shot of core temp after orthos has been running just over an hour:

Does it seem safe for OC? Not sure what else I can do to lower the CPU temp if not..?

    Re: New Temps

Yeah you can do some OC there. I reckon your case/case fans are limiting how cool the CPU can get.

    Re: New Temps

Thanks Thorsson, yeah, I've always thought that but not sure how to change the front fan as it is kind of built into the front of the case (thermaltake shark case). i could swap the one on the back for another yate loon easily enough though, and maybe hang a couple off of the side of the case..?

My PC is in a desk with a special cubby hole for the tower. I've driled the wood on the side of the desk compartment of the side of the case that has the vent on it but I don't think it's the best thing for good air-flow

Also, I don't think it does, but can OS make a difference for OCing? Is XP easier/better for OC than Vista?

    Re: New Temps

I'm not aware of any difference. It's stuff that stresses the system, like games or folding, that's more likely to limit OC'ing.

ok cool, don't do folding but play a lot of games, is 3Ghz on a Q6600 possible when gaming or is it just a case of try it and see?

Don't do folding! Well you should for the good of the Hexus folding team, it is also a good way of making sure your system is stable for a long period of time! But run Orthos first we don't want to be sending back rubbish data!

    Re: New Temps

Well you would be surprised how much folding can be achieved when your using it! My system folds 24/7 but even when I'm gaming it chugs away slowly, and when surfing or doing office work you cant even tell its running. I know that you wont get loads of points but every little helps. If you decide to give it a go click the link in my sig to get more info

    Re: New Temps

    As form my thread: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...emp-check.html
I am getting 62C maxing out on Prime on all 4 cores for my Q600 at 3GHz which I'm very happy with, only thing is, even with speedstep OFF my cpu reports as 2GHz on idle =\

how did you apply your thermal paste? You said that the thin line as per arctic silver instructions wasn;t that great, did you just do a thinker line?

    Re: New Temps

Your temps seem a little high for 2.4 on a Q6600 .... Which way do you have your U-120 mounted? and is your fan pushing or pulling air through the heatsink? ..
