    Question Need a mobo recommendation

I'm getting ready to finish getting the final components of my new PC...unfortunately, the motherboard I had been looking at getting is getting quite scarce. I need a recommendation for a substitute in case I can't find what I'm looking for (or if someone can suggest a better board).

These are the two boards I had been looking at:
    EVGA | Products A1 variant
    EVGA | Products T1 Variant

What I'm needing in a motherboard is this:
-It HAS to be an ATX mobo
-*Must* be an nForce 680i board with full SLI support (I'm getting one 8800GT, and am going to get a second in the coming months)
-At least two 16x-PCI slots (for SLI); *preferrably* two PCI 2.0 slots if possible (see above; have PCI 2.0 compatible video card)
    -Onboard 10/100/1000 network capability
-support for one IDE connection for one floppy disk drive and one IDE CD burner
-support for 4-6 SATA devices (at first, I will only need two; this is for expansion purposes)
-Must support Core 2 Duo and Quad chips (LGA 775 socket type) and preferably future-support for the Penryn line (I'll initially be buying either a Q6600 or an E6750)
-It needs to be a great overclocking motherboard
    -*Must* support 4 GBs (4x1GB) of Patriot Extreme performance RAM (240-pin DDR2 PC2 6400)

I don't need onboard sound (I have a SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer card). Also, the price cap is about $250 (American dollars): the same price the A1 variant of the eVGA 680i mobo. I can't think if I'm missing anything else or not.

My complete system components of what I've bought and am going ot buy soon are as follows:

    *Case: Raidmax Smilodon ATX mid-tower
    Video Card: GeForce 8800GT
Processor: either Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 or Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
*Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
*Optical Drive 1: LiteOn DVD-RAM (and all other formats) Lightscribe Burner - SATA connection
*Optical Drive 2: LiteOn CD-RW Burner 52x32x52x - IDE connection
Floppy Drive: Update SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA 3.0GB/s
    *RAM: Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(4 x 1GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Kit
    *PSU: Antec NeoPower 650 Blue ATX12V / EPS12V 650W
*CPU Cooler: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
*Keyboard: Saitek PK02 2-Tone USB Standard Eclipse II
*Mouse: Logitech G5 (2007 7-button reissue) USB laser mouse
    *Monitor: Samsung 226bw 22" LCD monitor (S-panel)

The * indicates stuff I already bought I need a mobo to accomidate the above components and criteria I outlined above. I need help!

    Re: Need a mobo recommendation

The specs look good, but the reviews don't (then again, the eVGA didn't have the most flattering reviews all the time either...). eVGA's warrenty is solid, though (especially on the A1); how good is Abit's? And does anyone else have any other suggestions?

I forgot to mention reliability is a big concern, as is coming with lots of cables. First time builder; don't have any of spare parts laying around.

    Re: Need a mobo recommendation

Abit are very generous with cables, have some of the best customer support around and will give you a 3 year warranty on the board I believe.

His is a very stable overclocker and has run SLi 7800GT's very nicely.

    Re: Need a mobo recommendation

Hmmm...I might have to look into it if the eVGA's stay scarce. By the way, does either the eVGA A1 or T1 boards, or the Abit board, have PSI-e 2.0 connections? Haven't seen it listed anywhere...

    Re: Need a mobo recommendation

    680i doesn't have PCI-E 2.0, that'll come with 780i.
In all honesty 680i imo isn't a great chipset & if nVidia didn't have SLI locked to it's chipsets very few would buy their chipset boards for Intel.

+1, my mate owns the striker extreme ( expensive mobo, poor performance ) which also runs the 680i chipset, my trusty gigabyte DS3 rev 2 ( intel 965 chipset ) kills it in performance.

SLI is for people with more money then sense IMO (and I have tried both SLI and CF setups....)

The performance gains are not good enough, it has issues with too many games and (with SLI) you get tied into a really poor choice of motherboard.

Just wait and buy when you have all the money together and buy 1 single gfx card and a decent motherboard.

    Re: Need a mobo recommendation

I found 'LT' versions of both the eVGA T1 and (after a lot of digging) the A1. These looked like pretty good buys with some stuff trimmed off... I know next to nothing about mobos; is there anything vital chopped off?

    LT T1 on NewEgg
    LT T1 on TigerDirect

The stores I found the LT A1 at didn't have the detailed specs listed, so I referred to this: eVGA Motherboard Comparison Guide This was the onlyp lace I saw the A1 LT model listed; its not under 'Products\Motherboards' that I could find. It looks like its the same as the T1 except has more cables and such i nthe box, and the lifetime warrenty. I also found one for only $10 more than the T1.

What do you guys think...is the LT models missing anything I need that I listed above?
