AMD Turion 64 X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo?
I'm getting a laptop and have narrowed down to two that are both £440 each
The first is an HP which is Amd Turion 64 X2 2 Ghz 1mb L2 cache but has a bigger hard drive, 2gb of ram it has can be upgraded and it's got a ATI Radeon X1250
The second is an Asus which is Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 Ghz 2mb L2 cache but the 2gb ram can't be upgraded and it's got an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100
I haven't found any article that gives a definitive answer as to how much better or why Core 2 Duos are over Turion 64s and I was wondering which is the better laptop of the two?

Re: AMD Turion 64 X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo?
Personally I would go for Intel CPU's over AMD as they are less power hungry. Oh, its not a Acer but an Asus :)
Any reason why your going with eBuyer for these? Dell do some good laptops in their Vostro range too
Re: AMD Turion 64 X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo?
33% more CPU clock should make up for any architectural advantage the Intel has. Better graphics too? Seems a clear win to the AMD system to me on performance, though the flip side is you might lose on battery life.
Re: AMD Turion 64 X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo?
For the money, Dell's systems seem to me to be a rip-off. You get a similar specced system for around 400... but then they forgot to tell you that you need to add VAT and a £60 delivery charge and suddenly it's aroun £600
I am open to suggestions of other systems though!
I forgot to mention that juice is not an issue as it's going to be more of a 'tidy' home PC that travels around the house and in the garden rather than anything thats going to be on the move a lot.

Of those you would be hard pressed not to pick the HP/AMD system its better in all the right areas (CPU, GFX and RAM upgrade) only benefits for the Asus are longer warranty and potentially Vista rather than XP.
