How do I warm up my CPU?

Now that my new system is up and running, I need to use it properly rather than just for Web surfing. It's currently running a little cool and I need to warm it up a bit:



So, what benchmarks programs should I run to ensure that the CPU can be stressed properly and the system remains stable?

both great stress tester programs, though you have to run one instance of prime95 per core (ie. 2 instances for a dual core cpu)

I checked out the suggestion of 3Dmark and found that there is a new test suite called 'PCMARK Vantage' available that is specifically designed for Vista (32- and 64-bit):

Intel TAT (thermal analysis tool) programme will get your cpu hotter than anything else.

Basically it is a distributed computing project where lots of computers do small amounts of processing which are all aggregated to one big project. (A virtual supercomputer if you like)

Folding at home is a bio-science based research project looking at how proteins develop or 'fold' as errors in the process can lead to disease, including some cancers.

While the basic concept of folding is to help advance medical and bioscience research, points are awarded for each work unit a computer completes, and these can be aggregated to team points - which adds a bit of friendly competition. Hexus has a team, currently in the top 400 in the world (a few months ago it was in the top 1000). Points aren't worth anything - but adds a bit of interest.

You may also want to use Core Temp to monitor your temps when stressing your CPU, coretemp is roughly 10c higher than the abit temp monitor on my Q6600, and i suspect core temp to be more accurate.

Prime95 is a good app to stress your system.

I see you have a similar setup to my own, i would also advise on the latest coretemp beta. As i found the later versions made my pc BSOD.
