Re: Ezcool Psu's

No, they're terrible. That's not from personal experience, just the reputation from people who've used them.

Saying that, I've got one in one of my backup rigs (didn't have any choice in the matter, needed it back up and running and this was all I could lay my hands on), but every time I turn it on I'm bricking it as it could destroy the entire machine. I can't remember if it's quiet or not, as I've typically got my hands over my ears in anticipation of a enormous 'BANG'.

For peace of mind, splash out on something decent.

the Corsair is far better.
There's also the Corsair VX550 slightly cheaper than the HX but it isn't modular.

Re: Ezcool Psu's

I would say dont risk buying an Ezcool psu. I know its tempting to buy one especially when you see corsair psu's (or other makes) £30 to £40 more, but theres much more chance that the ezcool may blow up and take out your pc components.

Of course there is always the chance that it may work like a peach, but you really dont want to take risk and the hassle that may come along with buying an Ezcool psu. Its not worth the £30 saving. Trust me

No, killed my last PC

I now have an Antec Neo HE 550

You can doa search on the forum, I made an annoyed post.

Graphics card, motherboard, memory, hard drives - all got replaced

All for the sake of the £20 difference between the ezcool and better brands (I got my neo he 550 on a special offer quite cheap though - £45 - normally retails about £65 I think)

Antec psus are pretty good, and they normally give either 3 or 4 year warranty.

Re: Ezcool Psu's

you'll already be getting free shipping from SCAN so that's a few £ saved (good PSUs are heavy).
If you can afford to wait then watch SCAN's Today Only page (or request something be put on it) e.g. the FSP Blue Storm 2 500W was about £10 cheaper on that the other day.

Someone told me, that Antec PSUs aren't antec PSUs, which is why they're good. (If that makes sense)

I like the neo he because it's literally silent and because it's efficient = less heat (in my mind, anyway). Much better solution than having a '1000000kw MAXPOWEEERRrrrrr' PSU that is 10% efficient and needs 2 120mm fans at 2000rpm to keep it cooled

The neo he needs just two 80mm rotating quite slowly (so slowly it's inaudible) to keep a supply of fresh air - the only downside to this is it can't really be used as an exhaust as some people use their PSUs.

Antec are a marketing company.
They & others source product , badge it & resell.
There are only so many PSU manufacturers & many brands come out of the same factories albeit there may be variations in exact spec.
Antecs tend to be either Seasonic or CWT oemed (as do Corsair).

Re: Ezcool Psu's

On a slightly related note, everyone knows that these cheap psu`s are utter crap, especially those in the know and those who sell them. So why do scan even stock them? the reputation alone of these sub £20 "powerful" power supplies is not good and surely scan would be better off stocking only high quality units that are less likely to blow up and piss off their customers.

Just curious.

Re: Ezcool Psu's

You can't physically buy the parts needed for a 650watt PSU for £16. Never mind build it, ship it, and the retailer to make a nice profit on. Its not 650watt, its nothing more than a lie

Oh, and its only "ok" until it pop's, taking god knows what else out with it. Thats where the main issue likes with PSUs. People can deal with crashes and instability, but chucking your new 8800GT away is a bit more painful
