    Re: Q6600 @ 3Ghz temp check

To the OP: Your temps still seem a tiny bit high. I also have an Antec P182 and I don't leave the fans on minimum if I've overclocked the CPU beyond 2.7 GHZ as I'd rather not have any of the cores (as measured by coretemp on Vista x64) go over 60 ish degrees even when stress tested.
I usually have it running at 3GHz and it'll run like that for weeks on end without needing a reboot.

    Re: Q6600 @ 3Ghz temp check

I can not remember where i found this ( like 5 months ago now ) and i saved it to note pad for reference:

    Q6x00: Tcase Max 71c, G0 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Default 1.372, TDP 95w, Delta 10c

    -Tcase/Tjunction-
    --70--/--80--80--80--80-- Hot
    --65--/--75--75--75--75-- Warm
    --60--/--70--70--70--70-- Safe
    --25--/--35--35--35--35-- Cool

So i would say something is wrong.
I have the same case with a G0 o/c to 3.2 and mine does not go over 45 degrees after gaming for hours

[QUOTE=matty-hodgson;1557525]1.45v is incredibly high for a 3GHz overclock.. mine gets to 3.15GHz before i need a voltage boost.
maybe you'd just be better off leaving it at stock?

    QUOTE]

Yeah thats what I thought. My old heavily overclocked E6550 actually ran at a lower voltage that that set by auto on motherboard.

As you say, keep it at stock until I can try another.

    Re: Q6600 @ 3Ghz temp check

I found that as5 had a curing time of a few weeks before the temperatures settles down under the chip?

I also have the Maximus and have found that this generates a lot of heat from the north bridge which could be coming up into the TRUE.

Also the P182 is not the best at cooling (had one of these with the maximus) and you could fry eggs inside. I changed all the original fans and added a few extra but the temperatures were still very high.

For the best results I placed two fans on the TRUE in a push/pull configuration.

use arctic cooling mx2 and just place a pea sized blob in the method, works a treat.

no need to spreda it yourself, the ehatsinka nd heatspreader do that, and if you put too much u will get an adverse effect.

Arctic Cooling MX2 has had very good reviews and is a lot thinner so it will spread out when the TRUE is fitted.

This is what I used with a TRUE. I followed the instructions from Arctic Silver linked below to put a single line across the two dies.

    http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appi..._quad_wcap.pdf

Benching at 3.2GHz and 54C with 1.344 volts, working my way up to 400 FSB.

Edit: I also spent some time cleaning the bottom of the TRUE with alcohol before fitting. Peeling off the clear sticky protector left a lot of sticky stuff on the face of the heatsink. First time I've ever been less than impressed with anything from Thermalright...

    Re: Q6600 @ 3Ghz temp check

OMG. I have now found that one of my RAM sticks (OCZ platinum) is duff. Looks like thats the reason for my poor overclocking ability with the Q6600. Just about to try again with the good stick.
