Quad core motherboards- Nvidia compatible
OK having ditched the idea of sticking with AMD, my brain tells me I am getting a quad core.
I wnat to run sli so any motherboard recommendations would be appreciated. I am thinking of the Asus P5bN32-e SLI.
Another question is, are boards which have got a pci-e slot but crossfire certified able to run an nvidia card, juts not two of them i.e can I put an 8800gts in any board with a pcie slot, just dont expect it to ever run sli?
Thanks
Re: Quad core motherboards- Nvidia compatible
crossfire boards support nvidia cards just not in sli. same for sli supporting ati cards just not in crossfire.
Re: Quad core motherboards- Nvidia compatible
Thanks Moogle its amazing how many boards are out there and you just have to know exactly. I had just never thought about sli before and then wondering how Nvdidia was still selling if Intel are beating amd up. Obviously its with single cards.
Re: Quad core motherboards- Nvidia compatible
The fact is that SLI (and crossfire) are largely marketing ploys. Unless you have huge amounts of money to burn you are better off getting the best GPU you can afford and upgrade it as necessary.
Re: Quad core motherboards- Nvidia compatible
although crossfire scaling is quite good. iirc the person with the top 3dmark06 scores has 2 x 2900xt's and it beats a person with the exact same system but with ultras, and the cpu on the ultra system is clocked 200mhz faster than the one with the 2900xt. the 2900xt beats it by quite a bit. That said 2 x 2900xt's is less than 1 ultra. But since the arrival of the gt it might have changed.

Beware the synthetic benchmark. Any fule no that drivers are optimised for these.
