Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L question

i been looking at this mobo and am impressed with the reviews, one question pops up, i wanna put the e8400 chip in this and from what i read i need firmware version 7a for it to run, now to do this bios upgrade will the board allow me to boot and do it or not>? if not what other ways are there?

I can't say for sure if the motherboard will boot or not with the E8400, but it's worth buying a £5 775 CPU (e.g. a 2.6GHz Celeron off eBay), use the celery to boot and update your BIOS. Then sell it again for £5.

Chances are you will be be able to boot happily, but it will just say 'unrecognised CPU' or something similar. It should work though.

Of course, you can never tell for sure untili you try it...

Might be worth checking reviews on this mobo. I saw one that criticised it big time for its 4pin 12v connector which melted during review when using a Core2Quad.

spoke with scan and they will do the bios for me for £10 poblem solved canna wait to play with it they guy at scan is a total wiz and knows his bits ask for lee pedditing he saved a wad of cash as well and spent 20 mins on the phone with me with no pressure sales ill def go back to him.

Yep Lee is a star. Considering how busy they get in there he is always willing to help

I would personally go with the Abit IP35-E or Dark Raider

I would personally go for the Gigabyte GA P35 DS3, as it has better power regulation than the L(ite)...

When you first power on, it should boot fine and simply flash to the latest BIOS....save yourself £10....
