No SMART data?
This is odd, I'm finding that I can't read the SMART data on my new setup, Speedfan doesn't even recognise the HDD as being present and SeaTools crashes out with an error every time it starts looking for drives.
I'm wondering if I've done something wrong with my setup now, I think that I've got the DVD drive on the 1st SATA channel and the HDD on the 2nd, will that make a difference like it did with IDE drives? I'm also getting the odd hang upon disc access, but I put that down to me trying to have my settings folders on a seperate partition to Vista as they've stopped when I moved them back to drive C:

Re: No SMART data?
Few things I can think of:
1) Is it definitely a SATA DVD drive? (it probably is, if its new)
2) I don't think the channel number matters - unless you put it in a RAID only slot or something. The motherboard should tell you about that.
3) It would need SMART enabled in the BIOS to get smart data.
Whether SMART is enabled or not though, I think SeaTools crashing is a very bad sign. If it is a Seagate disk, and SeaTools is crashing, that isn't good, and might indicate a faulty disk.
You could also try getting something like this, and running a few tests on the disk: HD Tune

Re: No SMART data?
Might also be worth checking the speedfan bug tracker to see if there's any specific issues with the board you have...
