CPU cooler advice

Hi, Im looking at getting a cooler for my CPU, for overclocking. I remember that the Scythe Ninja was one of the best, but that was some time back.
What is the best cooler out there now.

Making sure its compatable with my system.

CPU - Core2Duo 6400 (socket 775)
CASE - Antec 900 Gamer

The best is generally agreed to be the Thermalright Ultra120-extreme with a 120mm Scythe S-flex fan attached.

However the Scythe Ninja Plus revision B is still a very good if large air cooler (in the top 10)

EDIT: the Scythe Mine is also rated very highly and probably the best on a cost vs performance basis as it's generally around £25 compaired to the other coolers in the top 10 which tend to be around £40

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extream and Tuniq Tower 120 are probably the best two air coolers for max coolong available in UK at the moment ... with that Thermalright taking the top spot.

I've gone for the ninja in two systems now using the antec p182.. amazing cooler and super silent.. for noise i'd rate it higher than the thermalright extreme..no idea about the tuniq

Ive noticed that all these coolers and bloody big. While Im sure they will fit in my case, Im not sure about the weight. Will they bend? (As with most cases the mb being on its side.) Would I have to buy retention brackets or something to stop it bending?

I've used the ninja in 3 different pc's. It's actually quite light for its size and causes no problems once it's fitted properly

Im not sure about all of them, but I've got the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, and it comes with its own brackets that go under the motherboard, and then you can screw the heatsink into the bracket. So its really secure.

It is very heavy though, but I can't imagine it should be a problem if everything is fitted properly and the motherboard is secured properly etc.

I've also got the Ultra 120 extreme and its amazing, my load temps are now only a few degrees higher than my idle temps were with an AC Freezer 7 Pro.

I've just built my system with this in it.

It's really really quiet (I can't hear a thing from it under normal use) and it seems to be doing a good job of keeping my temps down (atm I'm getting approx 45 degrees underload (30 reported in Speedfan, plus say 15 degrees it's normally acknowledged to be out with a Q6600 clocked to 3Ghz)

AnandTech: Small Wonder? Thermalright Ultima-90 = Mid priced, light, small, betters all the coolers (with 120mm fan) apart from the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, and I guess you won't be overclocking anywhere near where the extreme's capable of taking you, so..

Theyshould all fit without falling off or breaking the motherboard.

I'll admit some of these large coolers can be a bit awarkard to fit
Some come with back plates and srews others use the standard intel push pins.

If your looking for something better than the intel cooler but it not too masive then I'd sugest these

Sharkoon Golfball at 2000RPM, a bit noisy for some people's tastes at full speed, but I like it to stay cool

Ahhh nice one, thank you. I actually thought about buying one of those too, and then just setting it to automatically alter its speed depending on temp.

Can anyone confirm that the Thermalright 120 will fit into an Antec 900 please?

I have the same question as the thread poster, but with an E6600.
