There will be nothing wrong with the drive for normal use .
The software WD Anywhere Access is what should be avoided
The DRM is for streaming content over the net
I'm guessing that if the software was used to stream copyrighted material then WD could be liable in some countries......... (classed the same as P2P)

Amazing. This is just what I was waiting for. Thank the lord for this product.

That is absurd, what the hell else are you going to fill a 1TB drive up with?... Word documents?.. File extensions aren't even a remotely reliable method of banning file types. And why the hell does WD care what users do with their HDDs in the first place?
They dont care what users do with their HDD.
They care about being sued for aiding piracy ( i assume ) P2P apps have been sued for a similar thing
the WD 250 and 500 externals i have came with google search i think but was never installed
the drive is ok the software is not for everyone ( anyone ! )
just dont use the software
mind you WD may be better just not including it as its giving them a bad name in blog world

Unfortunately in this case the software is apparently pretty damn good. Typical.
WTF? I can't believe how these things are going......

"Ms. Scott said the company needs to be conservative when so many Internet services that enable file sharing in one way or another are getting sued by Hollywood. Mionet, in fact, resembles a private version of Napster, orchestrating peer to peer exchange of files."
