Please check spec (Medion PC from Aldi)
MEDION AKOYA MD 8828 Design PC
Can anyone rate the above £630 pc for me?
Is it worth the money? (especially if you don't care about the blu ray player)
What's the 8600gs gfx card like? It seems like a weak point and that's my biggest worry.
My dad is thinking of buying it but I'm not sure if there are any better systems for around the same cash.

Didn't think we got an 8600GS over here. Not a desktop version anyway. It won't be very good at playing games in high resolutions but it'll be fine for media.
Doesn't seem bad for the money and to my suprise PC PRO gave medion the top PC manafacturer award this year. They have been useless in my experience but maybe times have changed.
You could probably build something similar for the money or something better for not much more.
It's the blu-ray/HD drive which will cost a lot to put into your own build.

Cheers Mike.
He's not bothered about the blue ray as he won't be using it as a htpc.
It was really the gaming side of things I was interested in. He's not bothered about high fps at highest resoulutions but I want to make sure it will play most games for the next couple of years without being a slide show.
I've build one pc so far (my own) but reckon he wants something he can take out the box and plug in (without me faffing about installing drivers etc).

If you're not bothered about the Blu-ray / HD DVD drive (which is that PC's main selling point), and gaming is the preference (which isn't really what a 8600GS is all about) - then I'd be looking for something else. :)

which is where the beauty of build your own comes in - sure at the bottom end you can't beat the price of a large system assembler due to volume savings but you do get to tailor it to exactly what is important for your needs.
