Hi,

I need to get my PC working and am about to order some stuff. However, i want to make sure that i have done everything i can first.

Right,

I did have this spec:

e2160 @3.5ghz w/ Tuniq Tower.
2gb 800mhz DDR2 geil RAM
X1950pro 512mb.
Abit Ip-35e

Now, one day I turned on my comp and it wouldnt boot. I got the ol' 'fans spin but nothing happens' syndrome. Now I've bought another mobo, psu and cpu.

However it still doesnt work, nor can i get the mobo to post. I've RMA'd a motherboard to see if i accidently fried both of them as i used the original PSU on both of them. It came back and OCuk said they found no fault.

So i know it can't be the mobo. My question is that is it possible that if the heatsink wasn't making good contact that the CPU could of been killed? I thought Core2's would turn themselves off if at excessive temperatures?

All i can think of is that i have destroyed both CPU's by not fitting the heatsink properly... (Tuniq tower is very hard to get on, and i notice it wasnt making proper contact with the north of the CPU...)

I have tried cold booting out of the case with just the CPU and MOBO but i get no POST, so it must be the CPU right?

So before i order a new CPU is there anything else that could of gone wrong, and is it possible to kill CPU's by not having the heatsink make good contact?

I'm in a internet cafe lol, so if i could get answers quickly it would be much appreciated!

Umm...I really dont think you could kill your CPU with no heat-sink contact...actually this happened with me, I just got an ASUS silent knight installed, but the temperatures were not as expected....very high they were...I opened up the case and noticed that the coolers base was not even touching the CPU...well now its fine...and my CPU didnt die ...lol...could be the mobo id say...but u say u got it checked....what else....did you get the CPU checked?

Does the LED on the motherboard switch on?...hmm..not posting....and fans work fine...what do you see on the monitor?....sorry, but Im trying to figure out what could be wrong...

Nothing on monitor, led's on mobo are on. No signal to keyboard either

It's probably a RAM issue, try swapping modules about, leaving one out, wiggle it very very slightly, don't force anything.

yeah, nothing with the HDD or the CPU in my view...could be something with the board or the ram...but shouldnt the board beep if its with the ram?...but u can try what aidanjt said...

Are all the PSU connectors inserted properly into the motherboard?

The motherboard LEDs should give you a clue as to what is wrong. There should be an explanation of the LED codes in the manual or you should be able to get this information online.
