    My new system build

It's been a long 3 years since upgrading my computer, and i'm having a serious craving to play all these fancy new games! So, the rig I'm planning on buying next week...

    CPU: Q6600 G0 stepping

CPU cooler: Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro

    Memory: Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400/800MHz CL4-4-4-12 Ballistix

GPU: Zotac 8800GT 512mb OC (already got this)

    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R

    PSU: Corsair TX 750W

    Case: Antec Nine Hundred

I've already got 1TB worth of hard drives and a SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card

The only thing I'm not totally 100% sure about is the motherboard, it's been annoying me trying to find one. I can't afford a high-end one with everything on it, so I thought the Gigabyte one would be best for my needs.

I did want a P5K but I've heard of people having trouble with it detecting the new Q6600 and certain memory, so that put me off.

Basically just wanting some opinions if I could do a bit better for the same price or if that's perfect as it is? Everything should be compatible and work ok right? Recommendations on motherboards welcome

    Re: My new system build

well the system seems to be pretty good...Ive heard the new yorkfield quad cores are going to come soon, maybe you would want to wait for price drops?...also the new AMD phenoms are here...that might also result in a price drop, perhaps you would like to wait? but thats just me.......
As for the board....I myself have a P5K-VM....it is working pretty well for me, good overclocking....but there is a big vdrop I think....(1.275v in Bios, 1.18v in Asus probe)...but you can check the P5K-V...or the deluxe one....

It's been a long 3 years since upgrading my computer, and i'm having a serious craving to play all these fancy new games! So, the rig I'm planning on buying next week...

CPU: Q6600 G0 stepping -Wait for the new Quads. Faster/Quieter/Cheaper. Only 2 -3 weeks away

CPU cooler: Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro - Average cooler. There is better for only £5-10 more

    Memory: Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400/800MHz CL4-4-4-12 Ballistix

GPU: Zotac 8800GT 512mb OC (already got this)

    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R

PSU: Corsair TX 750W - Totally overkill. Nice PSU though

Case: Antec Nine Hundred - SHould be nice and quiet

I've already got 1TB worth of hard drives and a SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card

PSU is a very important part of the system and a high quality one like that will keep my system very stable, plus it's future proof, thanks to the PCI-E 8 pin plugs. It'll last me many years. If i spent £20-30 less then i'd only have to upgrade it again in a year or so

As for new processors coming out in a few weeks, i've waited 3 years for a good system, waiting another few weeks would be torture

well, You waited for 3 years, wait a bit more if you can, it will be more torturous when the new processors come out and you wish you had waiting a bit more, but then u will be stuck

They system you are going to build is pretty much same spec as mine and i'm using the corsair 520 psu no probs at all.

the thing doesn't even get warm and I've not seen the fan spin up so it can't be using all that much power.

Plus it has the 8 pin pci-e plugs.

    Re: My new system build

Thats very good to know. Theres only a £25 difference between the 520 and 750 where i'm buying it from, which isnt much at all, so may aswell go for the 750w. I'm planning to OC plus ill have quite a lot of stuff plugged in to my USB ports. 750w is just extra peace of mind really

    Re: My new system build

are you planning to keep your PSU for future use? how do you know what power hungry applications will there be in the future?

hmm...i think it would be better to downgrade and get a lower spec PSU (which is sufficient) and get for a new PSU later when you upgrade because, as you say, it is the most important part.

    my view though!

edit - just seen your latest post - if you don't mind spending £25 on PSU and not other things that's fine as well

yeah its okay, you can get the 750W if ur okay with the price...if price is not a problem, go for the best...but do think about the processor again

do you really want the P35C?
It doesn't seem to be as good as the DDR2 only P35-DS3R.
Personally I would go P35-DS3P or abit IP35.

Not as good in what way? from what ive read they re both identical, except for the C having DDR3 support

Oh an the Abit IP35 doesnt support quad core. well its not listed as supporting it anyway

Doesn't seem to overclock as well & seems to have more problems going by the forums that I visit.

& the IP35 series supports quad cores.

I DO realise that the PSU is important

The fact remains though, that is massive overkill for that system.
If you are intent on a Corsair then the 520HX is more than adequate and £40 cheaper.

The specs you have chosen arent even that power hungry to be honest...it certainly wont be a drain on a 500-520W good brand PSU.

Remember...you did ask for an opinion and you got one.

    Re: My new system build

As blitzen says that PSU is serious overkill. As time goes on systems the most power hungry components are actually becomming less power hungry so ~500w will probably last a lot longer than you might think.

The corsair is also modular making life very easy

    Re: My new system build

im also going to be using several hard drives, 6 fans, filling 6 usb slots, and planning on getting water cooling next year, and ill also be overclocking cpu and gpu. now, i've seen reviews which list the full system power consumption for a heavily overclocked Q6600 as well over 600W

ahhhhh .. then perhaps you will need the extra

Wouldn't like your power bill if it does end up running over 600w lol
