Arrow Need your recommendations for new keyboard and mouse!

    Hi all,

My Logitech Cordless Mx700 keyboard and Mouse seems to be on the way out. It is starting to lag badly in games.

So I am looking to get a slick new keyboard and mouse that will work comfortably with Vista 64bit.

I play some games but am by no means a hardcore gamer. Ideally I would like cordless as I hate wires! but Iam open to suggestions.

I was looking at the Logitech mx5000 combo.

    Thanks in advance.

As far as mice go the ones that seem to be the most popular the the moment are:

    Logitech G5
    Logitech G9 (ugly)
    Razer Diamondback Plasma
    Razer DeathAdder
    Razer Copperhead
    Logitech MX518
    Logitech MX7000 (cordless)

There doesn't seem to be alot on keyboards out there but some are:

    Logitech G12
    Logitech G15
    Razer Tarantula
    Speed-Link Dark illuminated Metal

I have a G9 on an Icemat, and along with the Enermax Aurora keyboard, which I use on Vista64, with no problems at all.

They have improved my game in 2142 considerably. The keyboard is possibly an acquired taste though.

Mouse - I use a Microsoft Habu, comfortable & responsive. With Vista Ultimate x64 I might add

Keyboard, anything by Saitek, they just rule.

Not a bad looking keyboard. I didn't consider a mousemat as I always hated the the cloth ones from the old days. I currently use my MX700 straight on the table.

That G9 has been getting great reviews. Although I always found wired mice annoying.

Never heard of the Habu. Why Saitex for the keyboards?

Re: Need your recommendations for new keyboard and mouse!

The Habu was made by Razer for Microsoft, based on a Copperhead I think?

I had the Saitek Eclipe 2 before my Enermax, but it feels very cheap. Metal encased keyboards FTW!

The Icemat is a fantastic addition to the G9. As for the G9 itself, it's an awesome mouse.

The only real alternative is the Razer Lachesis and their new Lycosa Keyboard.

Re: Need your recommendations for new keyboard and mouse!

I just ordered a Razer Deathadder, if I were to buy a keyboard it would be a Saitek Eclipse 2, better value than a G15 and I prefer the styling.

Razer mice are kinda based around gaming style now:
    Lachesis : High-mid sensitivity
Diamondback : All round low sensitivity especially, ambidextrous
Deathadder : All round low sensitivity especially, right-handed

Lachesis is 4000DPI and laser, the new Diamondback and Deathadder are both 3G Optical.

The G9 looks pretty good, although its also rather ugly, and more expensive than it's Razer counterparts. It has interchangeable grips and a better button layout however, and a weight system.

I forgot to mention the Lachesis in my list. It looks good but do you need 4000dpi? I love the side buttons on my MX700 for going back and forward on webpages.

Is this the same mousemat as yours?

    Yes, but mine is black.

It's basically a sheet of frosted glass - works very well. The Razer mat is worth a look too.

    Thanks for your input.

The G9 has had good reviews but yes it does look a bit ugly. I like the look of the Lachesis. Does it have side buttons? That Saiktek Eclipse 2 looks a bit odd! lol

We have a new guy in our 'clan' who is one of the top ranked UK BF2142 players. He uses the Lachesis AND the G9, as he says one does certain things better than the other, but overall he prefers the Lachesis, as he has small hands...

Interesting. I am by no means hardcore gamer. just a casual one. I guess either of those mice would do the trick for me. I assume it works ok on vista home premium 64bit?

The Lachesis' shape is supposed to be a bit hit or miss, for low sensitivity gamers or people with big hands it's supposed to be a big no..

    Razer Vista list
    Lachesis
    G9

    Both fine for vista 64

Yea it does looks smaller than other mice. My hands aren't massive so it should be ok. Some are saying the prefer the deathadder!
