8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

The new 8800GTS is the newer technology (can be clocked to at least GTX speeds).
The older 8800GTX is the faster card. (better at high res)

I have looked on a site today (which i dont like shopping at) and the OEM GTX is actually CHEAPER than the BFG/ASUS/EVGA 8800GTS's.

Its a tough decision...what do you lot think and why?

(BTW...Forget the 8800GT. It is less powerful than the two above and in nearly ALL cases only about £20-£30 cheaper so its not worth the cash at all).

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

We all know how you feel about the GT lol.

At the shop that will not be named.. you must remember that you only get the limited warranty of the OEM card. That said most cards will either fail early or late enough for them to be needing replacing anyway.

Knowing you and Power Supplies there won't be any power concerns between the two cards lol.

What is the heat like in the the new GTS? That could clinch it for me.

I think, I would go with one of the better brand GTS's ,EVGA or BFG. It's the newer card and with a driver update or two might be better if not as good as the GTX.

But you won't be wrong picking either as they give comparable performance at a comparable price..

Does the GTX fit your case OK? Now i'm just nitpicking lol

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

i just got a nice gts at a decent price, i decided gts because of the double slot cooler and more power et c. plus it wasn't that much more than the gt. bfg one btw because of the warranty!!!!!!!!!

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

hmmm finally read the custompc first thoughts on the new GTS.

I'm swaying towards the GTX, mainly due to what they said about the cooler being a bit naff.

EDIT: someone just posted this in the bargains..

this isnt the one i saw!
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM still OEM mind you and in the clearance section.. but it looks nice

It certainly is and requires 2 6pin connectors.

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

GTX for the higher resolutions (1920x1200 and possibly 1680x1050)
G92 8800GTS 512mb for 1680x1050 and below ....

Although if the GTX is cheaper then get it ... do a bit of overclocking as well for the added performance ...

what screen you got? unless you haven't got a 24" plus then a gts will do fine. this is an oem one although it is bfg with lifetime warranty.

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

Im getting a whole new system, been holding out for GT cards to come in stock and subsequently waiting for the GTS card to come out. I am going to be getting a 22 inch screen, the 22" LG L226WTQ to be exact. An web based shop fairly near me has 25 of the EVGA cards coming in tomorrow and at a slightly lower cost than scan. Maybe I will go pick one of them up at the weekend.

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

Below is what I am thinking of getting. The only thing I can't get from this retailer is the Scythe Mini Ninja cooler. I may just order that from scan as pretty much everything else is at a similar price..

Geil Black Dragon PC2-6400 800Mhz 2GB Kit (2x1GB)

£41.71 x 2

BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS OC 512MB PCI Express Graphics Card – Retail

233.82

Samsung Spin Point SATAII NCQ 500GB 16Mb Cache Hard Disk Drive <9.0ms 7200rpm – OEM

£61.84

Corsair HX520 520 Watt PSU

£66.97

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case

£67.56

Intel Quad Core Q6600 95Watt G0 Stepping (This is the one that Overclocks) 4 x 2.40Ghz 8Mb Cache 1066 FSB Quad Core Processor

£160.97

EVGA Nvidia 680I SLI Socket 775 DDR2 GB Lan SATA II Raid 7.1Channel Audio Firewire

£138.65

LG L226WT 22" LCD TFT, Silver, 2ms, 16:10, 3000:1 Contrast Ratio, 1680 x 1050 Resolution, DVI

£192.64

All of the above is from novatech (hope that is ok to post?). I put the BFG card there as the evga one is due in stock tomorrow, so can always swap those around if appropriate (both a similar price).

Re: 8800GTS G92 ----> 88ooGTX: Which?

that seems okay, but most would swap the 680i board for a p35 or x-38 board for better ocing or future proofing.
