New building PSU to MBoard ATX to EATX help!

Hi

Doing a new build, still waiting for my power supply but need my computer up and running now. I have an Antec ATX PSU which worked fine on my previous ATX motherboard. It had a 20 point main connector and a 4 pin CPU connector.

My new board is ATX. It has a 24 pin main power connector and an 8 point CPU power connector.

My queries are abouit getting an old atx supply working with a new ATX motherboard. I have bought a 20 to 24 pin power convertor. There is soem debate saying you can plug the 20 pin in and leave 4 exposed. I have bought a convertor, so that doesnt matter.

My second and important point is thta I cannot find a convertor that has a square 4 point female to 8 point male.

It has been suggested I can just plug the point in at one end and I do not need an adaaptor.

Please cna anyone sues to doing the upgrade provide soem guidance.

I can't tell which gender the 4pin is though.. looks like male tbh.

Most boards will work fine if you just plug the 4-pin plug in Ive dont it in the past with a Q6600 and it worked fine, would help if you told us the board you have.

I was just wondering if i could plus the 4 point into the 8 point socket for now. Just looking for anyone who has done it.

I have new psu on the way.

Well it couldnt hurt trying it with just the 4-pin plug the worst that could happen its the board would refuse to boot.

Thanks i cnat get it in now anyway, have just mounted my Scythe heatsink and its so enorous am going to have to lift the mobaord abck out. Bah thanks, i'll tell you if it melts.

Thanks managed to get it in and my new computers is born, v happy now. Will get a decent psu soon.
