Memory problems

Hi all

Spec:
C2D 6600
P5B Deluxe Asus motherboard
2GB 6400 Dominator Ram
8800 GTX Graphics card
Vista 32 bit home

Weird problem just developed. Only showing 1GB of ram in windows and bios. Swapped ram over into different slots and still shows the same. Tried each stick individually and both work. Ran CPU-Z and only got slot 3 to work.

Is it a motherboard fault or a setting messing up (have not adjusted anything by the way)????

Sounds like a motherboard problem, I don't think it sounds like there's anything wrong with the RAM. Do you any other RAM or a motherboard to test with?

Worth running memtest86+ which might give a better idea of whats going on.

had a similar problem with the asus P5B. where i went wrong was i put 1GB RAM into each slot 1 & 2. this done strange things to my rig the remody for me was to move the ram in slot 2 over to slot 3.

I've been told that with any mobo, you should always use either the odd or the even slots (unless you can fill all 4 obviously)
With your mobo, thats either the yellow OR the black slots.

Yup - dual channel memory being the reason.
