    CPU stuck in socket?

    Hey guys,

I'm upgrading my system from a A64 to a 3800+ X2. I took the heatsink off with no problems, CPU didn't stick to it or anything.

But I can't get the cpu out of the socket!

The lever is up as far as it'll go (just less than perpendicular)

But the CPU just won't budge at all.

Help would be appreciated guys, since I'm going on holiday tomorrow, so it has to be finished and working by tonight

I'm on 939 by the way.

    Thanks,

    Re: CPU stuck in socket?

Put some toothpaste on the CPU, mount the heatsink on it. Wait for 12~24 hours and pull the heatsink out of the socket, it should usually take the CPU out with it.

To be honest I don't see why you can't pull the CPU off with the help of two small screwdrivers?

Yeah, that was the problem. I thought the bar was at the highest position, but it wasn't.

I literally tried everything, screwdrivers, paperclips, small chisels, shouting at it, I even tried to suck it off with one of those suction cups that you stick stuff to windows with

u need to stare at it i think..

what about using a stanley blade to pry it up, you can use the width of the blade to spread the load and save u snapping a bit of cpu off..

otherwise if it works leave the bloody thing in there
