Over clocking AMD Athlon 3000+
Hi all, I have a AMD Athlon XP 3000+ and was wondering how to overclock it slightly. I have plenty of cooling in case and will be expected for the (hopefully not) evenful outcome if it goes wrong
ANy help sould be great
I have a Asus A7V8X- MX board and awhen I go to BIOS there are no settings to change the Bus spped or multiplier, they are all greyed out?
TIA
Re: Over clocking AMD Athlon 3000+
Is that a socket A via chipset motherboard? If so i don't think you will get very far with overclocking on it.
Re: Over clocking AMD Athlon 3000+
yes socket A (Barton chip)do you think I will have a problem?
Is there any software that will help in doing this, I have increased stock cooling by adding 3 more fans and opening up back of case
Please reply with ideas
Re: Over clocking AMD Athlon 3000+
could be a locked multiplier, which is what you'd want to change. try search google to see if the 3000+ comes locked or not, and if there's some kinda mode to unlock it (may be just a bios update, or some pencil drawings involved). asus dont have an option in bios to allow further overclocking do they? maybe that's just why they're greyed out... on gigabyte boards you gotta hit ctrl-f1 so it might be something like that.
Re: Over clocking AMD Athlon 3000+
My dads got a 2600+, but unfortunately it doesnt go anywhere mainly thanks to massive heat problems the XP chips had i think. The 3000+ 64 bit venice core on the other hand goes like stink.
