Re: Anyone receiving freeview HD ?

I thought HD channels from the likes of the BBC and Channel 4 etc. are only available through Sky or Cable. I know the BBC have been running test tranmissions for over a year and set-top boxes were issued to selected people but I don't think any freeview boxes that are currently on sale are capable of decoding HD signals.

You can use a satellite dish and a hauppage PCI card to receive freeview HD services.

The Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 is £65.80 and a satellite dish will give you all the freeview HD content available.

I know the BBC will only initially broadcast in HD for a few hours a day although this is supposed to increase to 9 hours (or there abouts). I think Channel 4 has a seperate channel lined up that will broadcast in HD were applicable - otherwise it will be SD.

There is one free Sky channel and BBC HD are currently available. Channel 4 and ITV start HD broadcasting in march.

That's just UK content, the Hauppage also picks up services from the continent.

Re: Anyone receiving freeview HD ?

I'm getting some HD from Astra 2 (same satellite as Sky) via a Hauppauge HVR 4000 on a Vista PC. The HD does seeem to require some CPU power to decode as the PC (P4 3.0) struggles with HD but plays OK with SD. The software is not so good however (powercinema), and the hack to get it working in MCE is OK but can be problematic to get the EPG to work.

The picture quality on BBC HD is fanatastic though.
