    help!! system wont boot!

    Hi everyone

Ive been lurking here for a few months now, only just got round to registering though!

I just built a brand new system and its having problems, basically it when i hit the power switch, i hear the fans starting up for a few seconds and then it switches off, and then it keeps trying over and over again but never boots.

I have tried disconnecting everything except for memory motherboard and processor and no luck, tried 1 stick of ram at a time and still nothing. Can anyone help??? Its driving me crazy

Hi and welcome to hexus. What is the error code on the digital readout on the mobo? Are there any beeps? What firmware revision are you using on the mobo? Are you sure you have seated the CPU correctly?

Best bet is to start from the beginning, only use the bare mimumum components, ensure everything is firmly plugged in and seated correctly.

    Re: help!! system wont boot!

I don't think the IP35 has the digital readout, only the Pro.

However, my main candidate for the problem is that the 8pin lead isn't plugged in. On your PSU there should be several pre-sleeved leads wired into the unit (e.g. not modular), you should have at least TWO of them plugged into your motherboard, one of the edge and one situated near the CPU socket.

Yep, agree with the previous post. Sounds like a power connection issue.

Agreed - also most PSU's / motherboards require a 20pin plus usually an extra 4 pin that often slots by the side (these, as mentioned, are often by the edge of the motherboard) plus an additional 4 pin connector near the CPU - these are all power supply cables.
We are of course assuming that the CPU is correctly seated and that the motherboard and PSU are not faulty.

    Edit: This is your motherboard?

    Re: help!! system wont boot!

    Hi everyone

Thanks for the comments, I checked all the connections, there is a 24 pin connector, an 8 pin connector and a normal 4 pin molex connector attached to the motherboard, all of these have been checked and plugged in.

I managed to get the computer to boot and install vista by letting it try and retry booting. However whenever i attempt to power the PC now it always tries onces, powers down and the second time it works. Could it be a an old BIOS that is the culprit? I downlaoded the latest BIOS drivers but it says i need a floppy which this PC does not have. Is there another way?

    Re: help!! system wont boot!

There is another thread going on right now about this very issue for this very motherboard. It seems to be a BIOS issue.

    Ah right

That's normal for that board (and many other P35 chipset boards), it does a double boot to test the system. Check the aBit forums here on Hexus, there's a couple of threads on the subject and they might have the answer.

Unfortunately, I don't have the specifics because my IP-35 Pro doesn't seem to suffer from the issue

    Re: help!! system wont boot!

Well it appears to have been related to the common double boot with the abit ip35 problem. Although when i first turned it on i let it try maybe 5 or 6 times, each time it would turn off and on. However for some reason, it eventually POSTed. I installed windows and updated the bios immediately and it no longer double boots.

I dont actually know why it eventually decided to POST but hey, im not complaining
