Intel chipset for Nvidia... When already?

Am I the only one who is wondering why Intel's chipsets only support Cross-Fire?

It's about time they start supporting SLI...
X48, dual 8800 Ultra... hmmmmmmmmm

It's up to nvidia i'm affraid. I'm sure they make a fair bit producing their own motherboards.

You are right, they probably are.
However, what better way to get people to buy more Nvidia cards than to have more supporting chipsets.

In my opinion Intel's support for Nvidia is long overdue.
How else will anyone be able to boast with the fastest game-machine.
AMD sure can't, Intel can't if they only support ATI (AMD) and Nvidia can't as X48 is superior to 780i.

In my opinion Intel's support for Nvidia is long overdue.

1. nVidia won't give/sell Intel an SLI licence.
2. Intel are developing their own discrete gfx

The last time I looked into the hacked drivers I realised it wasn't worth the effort. Unless something has changed you are at the mercy of the hackers to support new versions of the drivers.

It seems to me that nVidia would make a LOT more money opening SLI up.....After speaking to a couple of people who work in the trade, they tell me the amount of socket 775 nvidia boards they sell is very low........Makes me think the potential of selling more gfx cards (the thing they do BEST) would out-weigh the drop in mobo chipset sales (the thing they seem to never quite get right)

Intel did get permission from Nvidia to incorporate the Nv100 MCP (Unfortunately still only PCI-E 1.1) on Skulltrail to enable it to do SLI.
Nvidia allowed Intel to do this because Nvidia has no competitor for Intel's dual-cpu motherboard.

But apperently even Intel knows that if they build the fastest gamer-motherboard (Skulltrail) on the planet, they want the fastest grapics solution for it, which is Nvidia SLI.

The sales of Nvidia graphics cards would rocket if Intel could build SLI motherboards...

Not quite, Intel has to buy the nVidia MCP to allow SLI because the nVidia gfx drivers check for the presence of an nVidia chipset before enabling SLI ...
If nVidia didn't have that check in the driver (which is what was previously hacked but is now encrypted) then SLI would run just fine on Intel chipsets as it is.
