Re: ASUS Optical Drive issue
The price of those things makes them pratically disposable - it's just not worth sending to be repaired.
Perhaps you could take it apart yourself? It's usually a simple matter of a few screws to remove the casing and popping the front cover out, then you've access to the insides. I've done it a few times before; the last time when a disc exploded whilst inside the drive.
Failing that a new one can be purchased for less than £20.
Re: ASUS Optical Drive issue
Yeah but its practically sad, since I got it, ive only burned one DVD and 3 CD-Rs, I expected it to last longer :D
Re: ASUS Optical Drive issue
Are you sure warranty period is finished if it's only 10 months old?

You said yourself you 'push the drawer in to load'. Is that through neccessity or habit? If its habit then theres your answer.
The belt is knackered.
I must admit, i push mine in aswell rather than use the button, but for under £20 im not bothered if i have to replace it every 6 months.
Re: ASUS Optical Drive issue
na an, thats necessity, im pretty much willing to push the button if that will make it go in :P lol, ya its a belt issue, and yes, here the optical drives have 10Months warranty. Anyways, now ill go for a Lite-on drive, Checked it online, it has a gear instead of a belt, they say its a bit noisy but last much longer.
