    Outputting to a 1080p TV

    Hi all,

I just bought myself a lovely new 40" 1080p TV, before now I was using a pair of 24" 1080p DVI TVs, but what I thought would work was just to plug one of the 7800GTX output cables into an plug adaptor into the VGA socket on the TV and it would display at 1920x1080 without quibles, BUT it appears it only wants to give me square resolutions up to 1600x1200 which obviously isn't right.

Basically does anybody know a work around although I will keep on playing?

    Cheers,

    Tim

Problem sorted with an Nvidia website graphics driver update. Gosh footage recorded on a Sony 1080HD camera looks amazing

Re: Outputting to a 1080p TV

I wasnt aware you could use a VGA to get 1080p resolutions. Im using a DVI to HDMI adapter to use on my 40" HDTV.

Funnily enough, I find everything too small at that res! I use 720 for general stuff and swtich to 1080 only for HD content.

VGA outputs higher resolutions that DVI but no idea with regard to HD.

The videos I'm playing back are mostly 1080i, I've got some content in 720p on my pc which looks pretty amazing to be honest, and I've got Sony's 1080i sample video - which by the way looks amazing, I'm not sure how p would even really help!!!

Re: Outputting to a 1080p TV

Some TVs are fussy. My Sharp 1080p will only accept 1080 via HDMI - the VGA input only accepts 720p max resolution.

Err If you're playing it through a 1080p telly then I think you'll find that your telly is converting it from Interlaced into Progressive Scan. So in effect you are watching it 1080P although not true 1080P as it wasn't recorded that way.

Re: Outputting to a 1080p TV

Mine is the same I think - XD1E, although yours is probably newer (I got mine in Feb last year).

1080 is only available via HDMI - the VGA (and component-in is only 720p).

I got a DVI-HDMI convertor from Curries of all places - £20 for it with a "free" HDMI cable.

Re: Outputting to a 1080p TV

Same as mine but its a "revised model" which I got in june. Have to say its a bloody good TV though. I got so immersed playing Uncharted Drakes Fortune last night I didn't stop till 3 in the morning!

I think a DVI-HDMI Converter is the way to go..

Re: Outputting to a 1080p TV

1080p is top quality - I use Vista MCE and playback of 1080i/p is amazing. The TV is fantastic - I use my PS3 with HDMI with it too, and games and blu-ray movies are awesome.

Re: Outputting to a 1080p TV

the issue is usually with EDID. EDID defines data about a monitor which is sent over the video wire - it's how "plug and play monitor" works in Windows. and, more often than not, it's wrong on TVs. my 1366x768 screen only sends 1024x768 over EDID
