Phenom 9600 BE vs X2 5000 BE

As a follow on from my thread about toasting an x2 5000 BE, its my bday next month and I should be able to buy a new cpu to replace the x2 4600 that is back in my system.


So here we go the rest of my system is shown. Now there is no way I am changing board et all. Therefore am staying with AMD.

Do I go for speed ie the x2 an overclock to about 3.1 as before at £82 ish.

or

Do I go for 4 cores and Phenom and OC as far as possible for £150 ish?

Use of pc is currently surfing, gaming (Hellgate London at the moment), video encoding, school work (I am a teacher) and some photoshop.

All views welcome but my feeling is for the phenom.

If that Phenom Black overclocks as it should and is that price I would go for that.

Mainly because at least some of your uses lend themselves very nicely to multitasking in that you can assign certain cores to different tasks. Whenever I want to encode video i pretty much have to leave the computer to it and play games elsewhere. But, the quad could use 2 cores for each

Possibly a more selfish reason is I want some views of the Phenom in a standard AM2 motherboard

you may have motherboard issues, some may require a bios update whereas others fail to support the processor altogether.

get another X2 as the quad aint worth the extra cash

The phenom would satisfy you longer, today if someone can afford a quad core over a dual core, should obviously go for the quad core, but if you are tight on a budget, a dual core, clocked to 3.0 Ghz would be more than able to play the recent and the future games for quite some time IMO.

Howz hellgate london? I wanted to get it but not sure how it is.

I know that with the current bois for my board that phenom is support so no problem there.

Lol sounds nice, I did like diablo, will give it a look then, how are the graphics? compared to other recent games? and its always bad when you let your children or younger siblings in on your computer, thats the start, and then, they are always fighting and then its really hard to spend some quality time with your computer

Hunian: Graphics look better than stalker which is the last game i bought and I was disaapointed with that, but am really enjoying hellsgate. So is my family, I'm in the kichen on my laptop, with my wife on her chararcter with my daughetr watching.

teachmech: Stalker was a very good game IMO, but I usually loose interest in role playing games, like Stalker and Hellgate london, they are a bit too loose on the script, I like playing first person shooters with a scripted story, but if they allow some free play thats good too.
