Possible Upgrade

Ive been thinking about this upgrade since I posted last time.

Im wondering, is there any huge difference between the AMD Phenoms and Intel Quads at stock speed, the reason asm asking is for one i dont really feel comfortable with overclocking and two, i dont have the funds to replace anything that i might damage.

At stock speeds you would be hard pushed to find a difference. If you wait a couple of weeks they are supposed to be bringing out a phenom black edition. This will have an unlocked multiplier which will be a piece of wizz to overclock

Also AMD give you some software to overclock from windows which is actually supposed to be very good. Looking at phenom's myself at the moment if I can get my rig sold.

Theres not a huge difference. People mainly buy intel quads because they offer slightly better performance at the same price + you can overclock them quite easily thus further making them better value for money.

If you dont intend to overclock then the amd phenom is still a fine choice.

I wouldnt mind overclocking i just dont feel comfortable tampering with stuff at the moment, maybe when i have the funds I will give it a whirl..thanks for the link shadowmaster

anyone got any ideas how much the phenom black edition will cost?

It's on tekheads for £170 so it might be a bit cheaper on scan when they get them in

What are you going to be using the system for?

Reason i ask is that i got a Q6600 and had to overclock due to certain games stuttering since they didn't support the quad core technology..

Tom Clancys Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell are two that wouldn't run perfectly at the stock speed.

It was my first time overclocking when i got the Q660 and to be honest after reading Clunks guide it was easy as pie to overclock..

I've had a stable 3.6ghz with temps just hovering over 65C

I'm currently running at 3.4Ghz and it hardly (if ever) goes over 60C

If you follow the steps in Clunks guide then there's not really much that can go wrong..

If i were going to build a system purely for gaming i would go for a Core 2 Duo as from as far as i know there's aren't any games that take full advantage of all four cores..

Ive been thinking, I am getting an Abit motherboard so it will more than likely come with the Abit Guru OC'ing program, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the program and how easy it is to use?
