    Hard drive silencing

    Hi everyone

Ive built a new pc and its deadly quiet which is brilliant. however Im using an old 74gb raptor (the 8mb one) and it is horribly loud when it seeks. Sends vibrations through the case etc. Has anyone got any tips on silencing it a bit? i was looking for a DIY sorta thing.

    Thanks if anyone can help

    Re: Hard drive silencing

The very first Sticky in the above forum is what you need if all you want to do is suspend the hard drive to cut out vibrations.

If you're thinking of making it quiet then there are a few other options. You can buy an off the shelf enclosure or make one yourself. I've got a Samsung drive in a Scythe Quietbox and it's very very quiet.

If you want to make your own, do a search on the Silentpcreview forums for Alleycat. Basically an aluminium tin/small box with coolpacks to keep the drive cool.

    Re: Hard drive silencing

I use fishing wire to suspend my hard drives. Does the job nice and cheap.
