    AM2 Sempron

Has anyone built a low end pc (basic use: web surfing, odd bit video, office app ) with sempron LE energy efficient cpu... How do they perform temperature wise.. or is Athlon64 x2 a better bet for overall performance?

I think I would get an x2 with the brisbane core. You can get a 1.9 for around £50 now and they overclock well if you really wanted it to.

Overall quality is very good and seems very stable so far. I like the fact it has DVI onboard to They do a HDMI version for a bit extra

If this is of interest the HDMI is an add in card in the PCI-E slot I believe.

I believe with a fairly decent CPU to lean on it will actually play 1080p quite well to although I havn't had a chance to try.

Good price. good brand too. Did you have to update bios or did it recognise cpu straight away.. vga monitors could connect too..

    Re: AM2 Sempron

Started first time no problems with a X2 5000+ black edition. Only went into the bios to change the multiplier on the cpu.. havn't touched it otherwise.

You can have dual moniors one in VGA and one in DVI no problem, both worked from first boot.

Just realised it didn't start first time. I was running dual channel RAM which needs a 2.1v rather than 1.8v so had to start it with one stick for the first boot. Most motherboards are like this though.

    Re: AM2 Sempron

Oh right, so in single channel mode it's fine.

Also what about for cpu, how many v that set to, it would less as it requires less power.

    Re: AM2 Sempron

Single channel on first boot, sort the RAM voltage out and then Dual channel is fine there after.

Didn't touch anything. CPU automatically set itself up the way it wanted to be. I don't have the PC to hand to check for you.
