    Question 14.1 widescreen laptop resolutions...

just spec'ed this up seeing as I'd made the previous mistake of spec'ing a CD not a C2D cpu...

looks quite nice yes? anyway i chose the "14.1" Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™" screen upgrade for £35 more... and I just wondered before I go ordering the thing... Is that going to be ridiculous for the screen size even for someone that runs 1600x1200 on a 19" crt?
I don't want to be squinting... I just assumed the higher the res the better even on a lappy? like is it more spacious but still caring a nice font size ratio?
interested to see what you reckon...
if not should i go for the stock res which i think iis something like 1200x800 and just get the True Life screen upgrade? theres £20 difference in the 2 upgrades so I thought it was a valid point... as this could go towards CPU etc...
    cheers

    Re: 14.1 widescreen laptop resolutions...

Both my 14.1" laptops have been 1200x800 which just seems right for the size of screen. I could probably copy with 1440x900, and some times that would be great too. But for general use, I think I would actually stick with the lower resolution.

Although I would like to try the higher one to see what it is like

1440x900 is VERY usable; we use Latitude D620s and 630s as well as HP nc6400 and 6910ps that all have 14.1" widescreens at that res. I doubt that you'd be squinting at all unless your vision's actually impaired anyway.

    Re: 14.1 widescreen laptop resolutions...

1440x900is the standard for a 19 inch widescreen tft so bear in mind the icons will appear smaller at first however you will have more desktop space to use.

My macbook has a 13.3 inch screen and it has the 1200*800 or whatever resolution, I find it fine for Mac OSX but it can get a bit cramped sometimes. I would pay for the better res should help with a few of your applications. However if you think you will be doing mostly office based work then you might as well save yourself 35 quid

    Re: 14.1 widescreen laptop resolutions...

I've had two HP's with 14.1" wide using both mentioned resolutions. I prefered the 1280 x 800. Although it is a bit more cramped than 1440 x 900 it was easier to read off of etc..

I would personally go with 1280 x 800 but I prefer to read more easily and use a second screen to add realestate when I'm working.

I've got a laptop that runs at 1440x900, but it's a 17" screen (more sort of a torsotop really!)

My mate has the vostro 1500 with a 1440 x 900 screen. It looks nice enough, probably the perfect size for the res.

    Re: 14.1 widescreen laptop resolutions...

I got a Vostro 1000 (AMD Turion 64 TL60, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, Vista biz, 6 cell battery, 15.4" WS, £363 deal) that turned up this morning for no frills family use. Not plugged and played yet. Whaddyawanna know?

Edit: Ok. Plugged and played and if the question was which resolution do i prefer on this el cheapo Vostro. There's only one answer to that. Native 1280x800 - no contest.

wow before considering dusting the creditcard off consider that with a higher spec (2.2ghz for s start) and same resoluton in a 13.3 asus W7 that weighs under 2 kgs with battey and is made in taiwan NOT china like the dell.
oh yeah asus 2 year global warrenty as well.
750, how much is the dell?
