Re: Thermal Paste Removal
You can't really go wrong with isoproyl alcohol, though Akasa TIM Cleaner also works well. No idea about the Tygris stuff.
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
i use baby wipes lol wet enough to get the stuff off and dries up pretty quickly.
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
Baby wipes! Is that safe? (for the CPU not the baby ;) )

second that. Couple of quid for a large can from Maplin. Useful for removing lots of other things too.
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
I'll see what's available and go for isopropyl or that Akasa stuff. Thanks for the info!
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
PC world have the akasa tim cleaner for #4.49 if you go into the store, or #2.49 if you reserve online before hand

I second (or third or whatever) that. I get mine from the local chemist (though I had to explain what I wanted it for). I think it was 90p-ish for a 500ml bottle, IIRC.
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
I use white spirit - it's never caused any problems for me.
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
I use articlean myself, should be able to pick it up for around the same amount as some normal tim remover.

Re: Thermal Paste Removal
Another vote for the Akasa Tim Cleaner, with a glasses cleaning cloth (which I nabbed from a friend) cleans heatsinks and CPUs up a dream.
I also agree about the smell, it's lovely but I do try to avoid inhaling it...

I got a large bottle from the chemist, good to know I wasn't the only one who had to explain what it was for :)
I tend to use Acetone to get the hardcore grime off but I wouldn't recommend this as it states 'attacks plastic' on the bottle so you could damage the motherboard if split :(
Re: Thermal Paste Removal
Another vote for IPA. I get mine free from work. That akasa stuff is citrus based so is most likely more environmentally friendly than IPA/acetone/white spirit etc and probably not flammable either :)
Waits for joke about beer.
